I recently talked to a minister that told me he worked with a DJ that he doesn't trust wireless mics. The only mic he provided was corded & on a mic stand. The minister told me this was a first & found it obtrusive having a mic on a stand in the middle of them.

What type of mics do you offer for the ceremony? & how many?
Also, if they needed more wireless mics (soloists), 2+ can you cover it?

Same here. I mic both the minister & groom with lavs. I have 3 wireless handhelds also avail if needed.
I remember a DJ telling me that he only mics the groom with a lav, (not the minister)
I can not see it can be properly done (without miking the minister)

Depends on the situation but usually condenser mics on stands off to the sides. I have used Lavs before but had limited luck

We have never been asked to mic anyone in the ceremony....all we every do in ceremonies is the music.

I trust wireless mics. They show up on time and do their job :)

I guess I think wireless mics are like employees. The good ones cost a little more, but are worth it.

I have 2 lav mics, and several wireless hand helds. If we need more than that, I rent them. Twice I've had instances were someone wanted several lavs. There is a place i rent them from for $25 a piece. I charge them $50 for each lav over one.

I use what it takes. I use choir mic in the arch or any kind of structure that will be overhead of the ceremony. Then I usually mic the officiant at mid chest with an omni as that typically gets good sound from all three. I do that if the B&G don't want to be mic'ed. I prefer a choir mic overhead, 3 wireless units for the ceremony with as many corded or wireless units as needed for soloists, trios etc.

I have used as many as 12 mics. 1 Choir, 3 wireless for O,B,G 4 Choir mics for a choir that they had perform at the ceremony & 4 more wireless for a 4 piece string ensemble, mic'ing each instrument. Recorded everything & it came out great. The mixdown for them sounded wonderful as we could control the mix of every element.

Typically, however you can get away with one for the officiant, & one for the groom if needed.

Rox,

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner! Well you can bring it to me where that came from VEGAS BABY! Sept 12-14th will do nicely! LOL

My wedding ceremony last night:
2 girls signing, i put lavs on the officiant and the groom

2 wireless handhelds for the girls to use, they sang one song...more than words...extreme

those mics, going into a T1 mixer, and then a L1 compact. Did the job perfectly.
