It's not the message or the messenger. It's the way the message is conveyed.

Just a thought, but I think it has more to do as to how it's perceived, and knowledge of the messenger's ways of conveying...

For example, I could convey the same message as follows:

a) Sarge, yer full of sh_t!

b) Sarge, are you sure you know that to be true, and are you willing to stand behind it?

For some (like me and Rox, and a few others) -- a works fine. We don't give a hoot, and we don't take this sh_t to bed with us.

For others, they require b, because they have not progressed enough, that they can read between the lines, and enjoy a good barb. They usually take it to bed with them, and wake up harboring bad thoughts about us in the morning.

If you don't take the time to learn about the messenger, and the way they convey their messages -- then you have no reason to bitch, when you can't understand what they are trying to say...

Just sayin', y'know... :)

And just to add to this, which is better?

You are on a blind date and your date is less than ascetically pleasing. Would it be better to say:

1. Damn, your face is ugly enough to stop a clock

- OR -

2. Baby, when I am with you, time stands still...

Just hand her the paper bag, and tell her to assume the position...

Exactly

Therein lies the problem. Especially with newbies. When someone is all sarcastic/curmudgeonly with a newbie they don't know you from Adam and don't know that's just the way you are and get turned off. We need newbies to continue to grow the site. That's just a fact. To be fair, some n00bs deserve it "I get all my music from Limewire" is just dying to be flamed. Again you don't know them from Adam and have to give them benefit of the doubt maybe they're just idiots who don't know illegal. Unlikely? Yes. Possible? Yes, again.

I just met a new neighbor last night and was all nice and neighborly. I wouldn't talk half the smack (joking around) to her as I do to the neighbors I already know are cool with me clowning around.

Regulars in fighting amongst regulars is just silly. You guys should all know each other better and for the most part you do. I cannot blame a few of the 'namby pambys' for complaining about it though. It seems their threads are always getting detrailed and they're always getting their chops busted. It's easy to perceive that the few regular chop busters are favored and treated as above the rules. The reality is that I know you guys are just that way. I'm used to it so it doesn't phase me unless something is really out of line in which case you get a PM from your friendly neighborhood moderator.

Some call it silly, some call it entertainment...

BTW, didn't we already derail this thread a couple pages ago... yorofl:

Hijack first, ask questions later yorofl:

Those that think they are cool and hip with their responses don't seem to realize how condescending and annoying they appear. In person may be one thing because you can see the facial expressions to better judge the response or comment, but most of us are not masters of the English language when it comes to the written word and our true intention might not come across the way we intend.

It would be best to simply make no comment...unless and only after she specifically asked or requested my opinion or advice on that subject.

Those that think they can "interpret" the character of others based on false "interpretations" gleaned from posts in a forum don't seem to realize how foolish and annoying they appear.

I think we should take the "R" away from DJRox & make it "COCKY DJox" :)

Then it is advisable to be careful what you put in reality's mouth!yorofl:

This is why emoticons were invented...

Check out this same comment, with 4 different emoticons:

1) Sarge, you suck :)
That's a friendly smiley. It means I'm just goofing on you.

2) Sarge, you suck ;)
That's a winky. It means I'm being sarcastic, and there's a good chance I think you actually do suck, or your post was total BS.

3) Sarge, you suck yorofl:
I'm cracking up, because either your post was just plain weird, or my response is fantastic, and made me spit beer on my keyboard.

4) Sarge, you suck
Rolling eyes -- means the same as it does in person. I have better than 95% probably that what yer saying is complete BS.

Now, go back, and read all 18,000+ posts of mine, and you will understand each and every one...
