Apparently I found a pretty good CD player in its time.... though I never once used it.

Pioneer CDJ - 500 II

I bought it on ebay and then never used it, but Pioneer stuff is usually good. Was this a good piece of gear?

Yup, that was Pioneer's early top-loader venture into assimilating vinyl DJs to CDs. These guys were usually offered as a package deal for a pair of 500s with a center mixer and free coffin case.

Around 1999, Gemini offered a similar deck but it wasn't nearly as versatile as the Pio.

Interested in selling it?

Interested in selling it?

Maybe so.... I have no idea what I paid or what it's worth.... but I wouldn't mind keeping its as DJ history, either.... plus, it looks mint, but I never used it.

I'm interested in the piece from a historical/collector perspective.

Call me if you want to sell for $100.00.

I bought a pair new back in the late 90s ($1100/ea) along with the DJM500 mixer - ran flawless, no problems but the flip up lid is kinda scary - mine are sitting in storage now - last saw them available around the $100 mark for a bit of history - keep in mind they don't play mp3 files - with thumb drives & i-devices they are true dinosaurs now

they are true dinosaurs now

statements like that don't sit well with us old farts....
(we felt the same way when they said the same thing about 45's...)

If it takes the sting out (and all things being relative), I did by them in the 90s so I was much less a dinosaur back then too!

I bought and sold a pair of them in about 2 weeks in the late 80s or early 90s. My friend had a Pioneer dealership and they were the demo pair he had in. When his full stock came in he sold these to me at cost. IIRC it was around $200 each and I wound up selling them for $400 each or so. I think they retailed around here for $750 at the time.

I found the doors flimsy and I was never a fan of top loaders I wound up buying a couple of Nikko CD players that still work today
