Seriously Considering This.

funny thing is Stanton has owned them for around 6 yrs or so with little to no marketing. No major advertising. Thinking they are living on and in the past.

Stanton has made a mess of the CV pro line. I used to be a big fan and I still say the sweetest sounding speakers I own are the MV15s especially paired with the B36. There new gear pails in comparison.

There! I corrected that for you! ;)

Thanks Bryan....Err I mean Canute

Lone,
How have you been using your Passives in the past? I have always used mine with Electronic crossovers. My two main rings all have passive speakers with no passive crossovers.
My reason most of all for not liking Powered speakers are thus:
1. Since I always spread my speakers, I can't see if the active amp is clipping or have ready access to the controls behind them.
2. I don't want the hassle of having to run two sets of cables, AC and Signal.
3. The Frequency is limited by their onboard electronics/filters etc. An Electronic crossover and EQ will do more for me with a Passive speaker than a basic powered speaker.
4. If one component fails, speaker or onboard amp, the other goes. With my present systems/configurations, I have a spare speaker I can use as fill in and also spare amps with me at all times.
The only way i could see you blowing a powered sub is if you either have the volume all the way up and the main volume on your mixer/controller to distortion level or if you buy a cheap crappy powered sub. I certainly don't think if you're considering buying those CV's that you would even consider buying a cheap off brand powered sub.

I also would seriously consider what those CV subs you're thinking of buying will be used for and how much use will you get out of them. Also think of it this way in terms of getting paid a good dollar amount to use those subs at an event. For me i had 2 and sold them. My thing for me was that they were too much to get them out of the basement and i looked at using them only when a client was willing to spend 1k or more. That's just for me though. You do what you feel will work for you.

It won't be a permanent install. It will be for the Club and I will leave them there. Average Djs won't have their eyes on them. Too heavey to steal and too big for their Corollas.

When I do move them they will be for large performances on stages or at shows. Money will be good enough to hire a roadie or two. Competition on the top will be less. While most of the DJs are battling for the same pocket change type of gigs with their two lil powered speakers and a sub under the table hidden from view, I will be playing with the Big Boyz. That is why I need the big Toyz.
Another thing to consider seriously is that those subs won't belong to anybody but you. You're the one spending the money on them. I say that to say this. Id they are in a club you might not know who will be playing there on a night you're not there and it maybe a DJ that doesn't know what they are doing and can damage those subs not knowing wehat they are doing. Who will be responsible if they are damaged or stolen? Don't think just because of how big they are they can't get stolen. A DJ friend of mine had one stolen from a club he was playing in. Trust me it can happen. Better to be safe then sorry.
