A friend of mine is an exec at this company and I think it may be the next big thing in computer control.

Basically a 3D motion detection system (sort of like an Xbox Kinect or Playstation Move) that is small enough to be buried into the palm rest area of a laptop. Might be able to maneuver virtual controls by reaching, grabbing and turning the air.

The external unit is coming out next month and they are courting the manufacturers.

A novelty in my opinion. Might be applicable for Push Play Operators not a hands on Live Mixing DJ! :rolleyes:

Why do you need platters .. I assume you do not setup 2 physical turntables for each show? There are touchscreen technologies that can make you believe you are touching moving things ( http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Touchscreen-Tactile-Feedback-Smartphones-buttons,16492.html ) .. won't be long until you can "feel" a platter on a touchscreen and manipulate a few switches in mid air. It's progress.

One needs platters to Manual mix. If you mix on Turntables you will know of what I speak!
 
Yes .. I realize you need controls, but virtual platters that move and "feel" like real ones, could be a future stand in.

I very much doubt it! You need to feel the torque of the platter under your fingertips! You are not looking for friction between the vinyl and your fingertips the fingers are stationary on the vinyl, so if you were to place your fingertips on a screen you will end up with friction.

Gene Roddenberry was a si-fi god and visionary. Most of his visions of the future are here (tablets, tri corders, cell phones, computers that can understand your voice) holodeck and transporters are coming soon!
