I really want order a Macbook Pro

Here is my "why".

1) software choices. I didn't try macs years ago because the software I liked or wanted to try wasn't available. Yes, I know now that you can run Windows programs. But if something doesn't work, will it be the DJ software, the Windows software, the software to run Windows, or the computer? I don't want to have to find out. I want it fixed. How does the software tech support help me now?

Windows is not perfect by any means. But the reality is it is very reliable when people use it reasonably. I'm guessing a good number of BSOD's are because someone is trying to run something on a computer that simply was not designed to do. Many times people buy a cheap computer then a game that will suck up all of the resources, then blast Windows because it didn't work.

I typically don't buy gaming laptops as they are a bit overkill for what I need. I buy good computers that have plenty of room for what I need. But I buy 2 at a time.

If my software choices were made naitivly for OS X, I would have tried Apple by now. I was a big android user and am amazed how much better iOS is compared to Android. And the software choices are better on iOS too

Just like cheap Windows computers, many people get sucked into getting "free" or cheap android phones, which are the WORST. But most high end android phones are much better.

I have very little patience for things that glitch at a gig. I gave up on Vdj after a few crashes. Pcdj same thing. My ots software never crashed. It won and I've paid more for it. If Windows crashed even a few times, I'd be all over the place figuring out how the boot camp thing works to get my software running on a Mac.

I pay more for sound equipment, mics, and iPads because I feel I can give my clients a better event with these tools. If there was any better performance I believed a computer could give me, I'd gladly pay more for it.
Thanks for that great reply. Only time I had an issue with VDJ is when I did something wrong. I was playing in the lounge that is closed now. I had my camera and partially closed the laptop down. I didn't know. That caused the software to stop working and I had to restart the computer. LOL. I've been using VDJ for years and I am very happy with it!

Not needed? Some would say any computer is not needed... I need my Apple to run a flawless audio and video performance. Nothing I have ever used has come close.

I play mp3's. So some type of computer/MP3 player is needed. As mentioned, my audio and video performance has been flawless. No need to add extra software to run my software.

To me, for what I run on a computer, there would be no logical reason to buy a more expensive computer...and the extra software needed to run the software that my current computer runs naitivly and flawlessly.

I could upgrade my mother in law's car engine. It would give her great performance at high speeds. It's a high performance engine. But her current engine runs flawlessly for the way she drives. So........why would I?

My laptops need to run my DJ software than can play audio files and video files. Windows has proven to me that it can do that flawlessly when someone doesn't use the cheapest of the cheap specs and components.

I think I used the word flawless(ly) waaaay to many times:)

I have used Windows machines and had flawless performances. My Apples are just another tool in the belt. :)

In all honesty, a computer is not needed. You could hook a drive to one of the many controllers and use that to perform. You could load MP3's to a USB stick and load them on Digital Vinyl turntables.

Thats why I like the MC8000, no laptop needed.

Since I use Serato DJ, I also hang out on the Serato forums - and as long as you don't curse anybody out, almost anything is OK there.
Macs are really big with Serato users, and in all honesty, it is scary that some of these people are allowed to procreate, let alone get near a computer!

You should have bought a Dell Inspiron in 2007 then. I bought 2 both still work. One I retired from DJing in '09 and became a machine I use to kick around on the internet the other is my main gig machine. Both work flawless. I also had 2 or the small notebooks (Mini 10 I believe). One got used for my second system. It lasted 3 years before it had a flicker on the screen one night and I replaced it. I gave it to my daughter and it lasted her 2 years. I sold the second one for a couple of hundred bucks. Personally I didn't like them and rarely ever used them but they were reliable

I'm not, and never will, argue PC is better but I will say for what we do there really isn't much difference between a Mac and a PC

I put a like to your post but disagree with one thing you. I nearly in every post mention price. Again taking it away for now from a laptop, I've know other things that are way over priced. Yet some people are caught up into labels and that's why they buy items that are way over priced. Let me give you 3 examples. I went to Short Hills Mall looking for a place to buy some CD's at the time. I go into one of the stores. Not sure which one. They had for sell a thin leather jacket that you could only wear during early spring and it's not to cold. The price was over 2k. Then in another store they had a tan/brown leather brief case that has the 2 carry handles on it. It was really hot. I tell people to guess how much it cost. People tell me $500 and think that's too much to pay. They want 2k for that brief case. A friend of mine has a daughter who said she bought a True Religion jean jacket for $400. To me and her mother that is crazy. Especially since she lives in the projects right where my friend that DJs with me lives.

Now anybody can do what they want. Me and her mother both agree she lost her mind. I have never seen anybody's jean jacket that I would pay $400 for. I remember a story where a guy that owned a store stopped selling certain things because he knew who was coming in to buy these items. He said he knew it was drug dealers. Some things are priced that way to sucker in some people to waste their money on that item.

I wish I had a product that I could make a fortune off of taking suckers money because they see a name and think it's worth the price when it's super way over priced. I really don't have a problem if a person can comfortably afford something. Now if you got to struggle to pay your rent just to get a particular item, then I say you should really rethink if you really need that item. What gets some people in trouble is their wants and not their needs. Everybody has things they want and that's not a bad thing at all. It's only bad when a person neglects their needs for their wants.

My best friend bought a 2015 SUV because the one he had that he bought brand new in 2002 died. The engine was gone. So need to fix that one. He needed another vehicle to get back and forth to work so he could pay his bills. I bought another van myself because the one I had I didn't buy brand new was a 2002 and it started having a lot of problems. So I opted out to buy a more reliable vehicle. Only major thing I've had to do so far is buy some new tires.

Cool story bro.

What the hell are you talking about???????????????????

Or you could go old school .. CD's and Vinyl. :)
Where would you get the vinyl and enough of it to do the event? I sold all my vinyl many years ago for next to nothing. Then later on I got back in business. Don't put down DJs that still use CD's. My friend that used to play in the lounge that closed down is still playing in a couple of lounges and still uses CD's. He said by the end of the year he should be a computer DJ. I doubt it as he just turned 66 and probably stuck on how he does things now like I used to be. I'm glad I made the switch!!!!!!!!! I was pushed in that direction. I thought it would be difficult. It was easier then I thought. I'm loving it!

Sorry I made a typo. It should have said I don't mention price in nearly every post I make. Some yes but only some. My point has been that some things are just over priced. Some people just get caught up in a name and will pay a crazy price for that thing just because of the name. When they can get another similar item that will work or wear the same and not spend a ton of money.

The big thing is you can buy the best gear for example. If you don't know what you're doing with it, what good does it do you to have it? Just for show? We all have something that someone else likes that we can't stand. They swear by it and we wouldn't event consider it. It's all in what works best for you and what you feel is right for you. Some hate Mackie SRM speakers and some will swear by them for life.

My thing is if you can truly afford a thing that's fine. If not then I say either wait till you can afford the thing or just forget it all together. A person can go out and buy a brand new Mercedes. That's very nice. Now what if all you do is go from one job to the next to pay for it. When do you get to enjoy it or the other things you have? You don't have time because you're to busy working to make sure that the repo man doesn't come and get it.

Uhmmm, record store? I still have a massive amount so I could possibly get by on what I have.

Where did you see that I put down DJ's that still use CD's? Heck, I still use them.

A bunch of people have learned to associate a 'name' with quality .. and because of that, will spend the extra on something they know works and will continue to.

I have a Sony Vaio from the early 2000's - and it's still kickin' ass - just not as fast as it used to.

The first real computer I had was a used 166 with Win 98. around 98 or 99. I upgraded to ME and started using MM on it toying around. I upgraded to a K62-500 next I thought I would never need any more than this lol. Amazing how lightening fast can seem so slow now
