Karaoke Books, do you use them?

It depends on how good the PC is. I think a PC with a searchable database of songs and a database of lyrics related to songs would rule over any book.

That one question I hate so much...

"What's that song, it goes like "At first I was afraid, I was petrified."

It's the next logical step in karaoke kiosks. Sure, you as a KJ might be able to answer that question 10% of the time, but the PC can answer it 100% of the time with 100% accuracy.

Let's not forget things like "Preview/Listening Stations" If what I described above was standard at every karaoke bar, I would never want to touch a book again.
(BTW answer is DKK1-9, that was off the top of my head:sqrolleyes:)

Hmm sounds like a kick-ass idea.. But i'm not sure how easy it would be to program.. But then, programming isn't my thing.. maybe you should put that on the feature request for kfe. :)

Pretty easy to do really. The hard part would be getting the list of lyrics to begin with.

As for listenting stations.... Again, easy enough to do but it might cause a glich if the music was playing from the host computer at same time. Or, you could just put the first ten seconds of each song on the remote computer and it would solve that problem.

I think the double columns in books is a bad idea. You are dealing with drunks after all.

The only down side to kiosks that I found was at outdoor events when it was hard to see the screen.

At least I won 2 people over :)

Yah the big problem I see with a lot of karaoke softs, and I hate to use this term don't, "Think outside the box".

If kiosk software is written in the context of "Let's make something that's like a book" then that's all it's going to amount to. Just an electronic book with no real advantages over paper ones.

What would be really cool is an extension of the lyric search idea and the buy a song idea.

Scenario:

Person comes up to KJ "Do you know a song, that goes 'goto him'" *if anyone has seen Married with children, there is an episode that Al is looking for this particular song, damned funny*

Kj doesn't know it. "Try our lyrics search data base over at that station"

person types "goto him" and the database pops up with "Anna (Goto Him) - Beatles"

The person recognizes that's the song they want but wait.. the kiosk also says

"We currently do not own this song but for $5 you can cue it right now" *or whatever the message Toqer suggested it was shorter*

The person touches the button that says cue song, inserts their $5, types in their name and the person gets to sing their song on the next rotation.

what does everyone think?

I think you would be hard pressed to get me to part with five bucks to sing a flipping karaoke song.

I disagree...I think most singers would get off five bucks for instant gratification. It is amazing what people will drop money for at a bar. When you consider what $5 is really at a bar, in relation to what other things cost...I mean, I see people dropping dollars into the punching bag, the cost of shots, mixed drinks, import beers, appetizers...five bucks becomes meaningless in that culture.

I have people that are willing to pay $20 or more to sing the last song at closing or after closing time...or other nonsensical things.

If I could legally download songs on demand for 5 a pop, I would sign up tomorrow.

I have been in business long enough that I have a decent library, but my big issue is paying to update the library and then the people dont sing the new stuff...or the people who request songs then never sing them! A system on demand lets THEM put their money where their mouth is. Wanna sing the latest Joe Nichols song that I dont have then decide you dont like it? No problem, drop YOUR fiver.

I love the concept.

People bristled at five bucks when the custom burn process came out as well...but that seems to be doing OK...

Harryoker: Here's the kicker you can download music at your show legally.... AutOKdj has a built-in tie in with Tricerasoft and you can download directly from there site paying for the downloads either by Paypal or Credit Card... and you get the file dang near instantly....

.... and with the FE Kiosk being developed there will be the ability for singers to insert money just like a vending machine to purchase music... this is all coming down the pike and not here yet since it is still in developement... plus if more download sites such as CAVS come online with this you are going to have instant access to thousands of songs both new and old right at your singers finger tips... all the while your wallet gets fatter and fatter.
