Does anyone send some type of information to people who have engagement announcements in the paper?

I never thought of this before, my mom gave me the idea. My aunt sells monuments so she scans obituaries to make sales. My mom suggested I use the paper for leads and send something out to recently engaged.

Does anyone do this? Does it work? What do you send?

Generally there are no addresses listed, so you need to track down that information and hopefully find the correct person/couple. Seems too labor intensive for a long shot of getting the right address for the handful of couples listed in the engagement section.

I don't know a stamp is only $.44. Generally google or white pages finds people quite easy.

I think its a better shot then the one story I heard were someone was printing a packet that cost $1.75 and placing them at venues.

I've tried mailings and have had mixed results. I don't think there are enough of them, at least not in my area, to really track the results unless you mail to engagement announcements over a long period of time. My results were lackluster, at best, but could possibly be attributed to a bad mailing piece, etc.

Peace!

I don't do it and have no idea if it'd work but years ago I worked for a guy who used clipping services to locate specific articles, like what you mentioned. You might google a few services that'd pull from multiple papers in your service area.

or better yet
call the newspaper and ask how much to place an AD right on the engagement announcement page.
you know that EVERY couple in the paper that day will be looking at that page!
(and probably have all their relatives saving them a copy)

i did the same thing as everyone else here has done, for 3 or 4 years i would cut out the picture of the bride to be look up the address hope it was right and along with info about me and what i have to offer and for 4 years i got squat , it sounds like a great idea but most of the time it doesn't seem to work
