We have index cards that once a customer sings with us at 3 shows they get their own card. So now most of them expect that their name and songs will automatically be put in the rotation when they walk in the door.

Curious, do you keep track of what your regulars sing? Thanks

Not on purpose, but many of my regulars have been with me for years, and I just KNOW. However, I don't put them in until they hand me a slip- and they know that. This keeps the rotation fair when newer singers are added to the mix, and I'm sure WHICH of their songs they wish to do first...

I agree with Joe, I wouldn't put someone in just because I see them walk in the door... maybe at the times if it is slow and you have an opening you could just call one up,,, but make them hand in a slip, gotta keep it fair...

what a fantastic way to keep your customers comin' back!

Maybe do a rep system somehow?
Earn the card
Come to shows
Big graph board poster on the wall.
Sticker in number of songs sung.

Make a point system like chucky cheese.

What if there was a way to have the whole system set up on plastic and have a card reader? People swipe their card each time they come up...after so many times they can be comped out like a casino with free apetizers or t-shirts of the bar etc.

Have I gone way past sticky notes?

Rick, you getting this? usb card reader, club power points card, freebies for singies....

I don't do karaoke, but its a thought?

I have histories on all my singers in XML format. Wanna see?

Had all my singer histories in txt format. One would need XML for a history list why exactly? And I agree, if they don't put in a request they're not in the rotation.

I'm waiting for the next great karaoke software that will track everything.

I want to be able to add a singer and it will tell me everything that have ever sang. Also it should alert if someone has sang the song in the evening. Then after a few years you could have neat alerts like no one has ever sang this song before.

The only time I kept track was to post my playlist here.

I can see how regulars would like it but I never maintained an index file on my regulars. Too much work for a lazy soul like me. Even my most regular of regulars knew they were not in the rotation unless they handed me a song slip. A few of the regulars kept their slips from week-to-week and used them over and over.

autOKdj man.. It's free cause we like stickin it to the man, smoking weed, and brewin our own beer.

Yah it does all the stuff you mentioned. Except maybe the "This song has never been sung" thing. Complete singer histories, even has a button "Favorite from history"

Geez, Toq, now if you can program it to sing for 'em too.....:sqlaugh:

I use VDJ and have about a dozen of my regular singers that each have their own virtual folder with the songs they like to sing. When one of these singers come up I just click on the virtual folder with their name and then click on the song they want,no typing needed to search for a song.Maybe thats lazy but what the heck.

As mentioned by Toqer... using AutOKdj it maintains a singer history of everyone who has sung no matter if they've only been there once or hundreds of times... every song a particular singer has sung will be in their history assuming all names are unique....

So, when Bob "The Entertainer" comes in you can easily say "Hey, Bob wanna sing a song... how 'bout ______________" and with no worries about disturbing the rotation you enter his song since AutOKdj handles the rotation your not going to snub someone unless that is how you allow it to handle rotations giving new singers priority in their first round of entry... meaning when they first get put in they are a new singer and get priority for that round and that round only.

The only draw back is well, you know computers garbage in garbage out. If there is more than one Bob "The Entertainer" then their histories would be combined, so it is imperative that the "regulars" use unique names so if you start seeing the two Bob's more often in order to separate their unique singer history's would be to give each Bob a more unique name and have them use it whenever the enque a song for themselves.

I won't use a sotware that is add on to winamp. It needs to be it's own program.

I would consider Compuhost but I do not have an available usb slot for the dongel.

heehe... Trust me DJ Cam AutOKdj is way above the average Winamp plug in... and if you are serious at all about rotations none other performs better.

Index cards wouldn't work for me, I always challenge my singers to try new songs all the time. I would have at least 2-3 index cards for each singer.

Lately they have been kamikazeeing each other for songs. It's really freakin' hilarious to watch.

USB hubs are getting cheap and easy to find and use. When I redo my rig, I plan to get a 4 port USB hub extension with a long 6 ft cable attached, and my dongel, sound card and wireless mouse USB connectors and external hard drive will be permanently attached...then showtime comes, I just have to plug in one USB connector and the power then boot up!

Carolyn, I handle it much like you...I keep a list, whether written or mental, on the regs and put them in when they walk in the door. That policy has a caveat: if they are consistently there to sing, I put them in the rotation...this is a reward for being a loyal regular. If they are the type to need a few drinks first and dont sing every rotation, I will not immediately add them to the rotation, I will wait for them to ask or hand in a slip.

I call the people who are there to sing and want to sing as much as possible "A-listers".

The downside to keeping a list is that if you depend on it too heavily, you are encouraging them to fall into the rut of mediocrity...but, chances are they are going to do that anyway.

Keep those lists, continue to treat your a-listers as such, but dont forget to encourage them to look at the books and try new songs now and again to help keep your show fresh for the non singers.
