    let's talk voltage regulators

It IS heavy. I have it in my large raodcase. I guess I will have to take it out now since it's not bona fide.

    GTD mic initial impression

The digital systems that I have seen are in the 2.4 GHz band. I have had zero problems with latency, but I have had BIG problems with Wi-Fi interference if the router is nearby.

    let's talk voltage regulators

Rick, it is a Monster Power Pro 3500. Here is a copy of the owner's Manual: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000070815.pdf It functions with any voltage between 90 and 130 volts AC. Anything above or below that, and it goes into protection mode. So, I...

    let's talk voltage regulators

True, but some conditioners accomplish regulation as well. The one I use does this quite well.

    let's talk voltage regulators

I use a big Monster Power Conditioner that is apparently no longer available. You should definitely use one, as crappy power can do all sorts of nasty things to digital and analog equipment. Over-voltage might even be the least of your worries........

    What’s In Your Gig Bag?

If I had a dollar for every time I have used my standby corkscrew, I estimate I would have like $47. It comes in real handy.:twocents:

    Is Blacklight a thing again?

Our Hex 4's have a UV LED built into them. We will start pitching that for black light parties soon. They seem to be a big deal around here right now.

    What is your best idea?

Being of the Engineering sector, I am really proud of the roadcase that I built a couple of years ago that has EVERYTHING I need in it for a wedding reception. Big bastard though. I also fashioned a caster mount to the top of my truss system, so that it rolls out like a wheelbarrow and into...

small room vs large room acoustics

For a dance like that, the more low end the better. Using the different subs will likely cause some comb filtering, and maybe some power alleys, so make sure and walk the floor all over when testing. On second thought, those kids will just find the sweet spot and hang out in it!

I play John Prine's version of "My Old Kentucky Home". It never fails to get at leas tone question of "Who is that?".

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

OK. Here is my $0.02. They way you set a higher price is to create demand. Over the past three years, my partner and I have made it a point to do everything we can to make the Bride & Groom's day as special as it can possibly be. We do face-to-face meetings where we get all the details, and...

    lighting for a gymnasium

...always bringing me down Steve. Good point though. I guess I was thinking more about the other effects that are built in. I currently use them in the auto program that doesn't use the lasers. You are correct about the height and the loss of intensity at the floor level. MOvers are...

    lighting for a gymnasium

I too would suggest some combination of moving heads, but you might also put a couple of moving washes in there as well. I saw some at a concert last year. Two of them turned the whole damn stage different colors, and they did some strobe effects as well. I use pocket spots, which are no...

How many DJ software programs have you purchased, and which do you actually use?

In my beginning days, I used DiscoXT. It had some really useful timing features, and I liked the fact that it did a remarkable job syncing up with iTunes. These days, I still use iTunes for playlists, and I use iCloud to store my music. Therefore, I use DeeJay on both my MacBookPro and my...

    Deal killers

About the only thing that is a solid deal-breaker for me is a venue that doesn't have good elevator access to a second floor.

Bride wants to sing her entrance

I think I would go the other way. find a place to place the body pack, preferably on the back of the dress. When she is done singing, have her Maid of Honor help her remove it so that it will not be in the ceremony pictures, except where she is actually singing the song. It will be apparent...

    Batteries in wireless mics

I look at it like this: I'm getting paid very well to do the event (or I wouldn't be doing it :monwink:). I can absorb the cost of a few new batteries and the cost of a few new songs for each and every one of them. As an engineer, I spend my days calculating amp-hour use, capacities, and the...

    Batteries in wireless mics

I buy the generic brand at Lowe's. You can get 30 batteries for $10, and I don't care that they only last 4-5 hours because that's all I need out of them anyway. Peace of mind and I always have spares.
