I would not have let a voicemail with a quote, I would have simply said I have your quote ready I think you'll be pleasantly surprised please call me back at your convenience, I look forward to continuing our conversation, have a great day

I usually don't leave a price quote in a voice mail, but at the same token, it's no different than shooting them an email with a quote for them to read at a later time. Some people may not call back because you withheld the price as well. We already talked over the phone yesterday, so there isn't anything else I needed from him to provide the quote.

If he's ready to book, he will call back. If he doesn't want to pay that much...he won't call back and continue to look for someone else. ...I will call tomorrow to follow up if he doesn't call back today.

Didn't you just turn down an OC job because it was too far and that you would need a room?

edit: I stand corrected, it was about the distance, the fee and the room.

I did...That one was for Valentines Day. The Lady was the Sales Director at a Hotel there. She wanted a Karaoke Jock for V day in the lounge. They wanted to pay $150 for 4 hours. ...Seeing as I don't leave my driveway for $150 locally...I'm not driving 145 miles with Bay Bridge Tolls on Valentines Day for that kind of pay.

I'd never travel 100 miles for a gig...no need for one thing, and the time/gas adds to cost, length of day...and if you want referrals do you want them 100+ miles from home?

Not sure what you're doing even getting inquries from that far away - sounds like your wasting your marketing dollars. Get closer to home and double what your'e doing.

I have deejayed 5 weddings in Ocean City, MD. I stayed at my parents over night when I did. Woke up, had lunch with them the next day, and drove back home.

As for this particular gig if I can get it booked, it would be money on an otherwise open date. Saturday March 19th is 30 days away and no other inquires at the moment for the date.

I do quite often. When I do the money is real good

Just this morning I have had 3 Wedding Inquiries all from the google ad. I already have a Skype Conversation scheduled for Wed. night with one couple. Another couple asked me about Skype (THESE COUPLES TODAY LOVE TO USE SKYPE). Two weddings from southern Maryland, and one at a Country Club in Virginia.

I just need to convert these inquiries into actual paying clients so I can say the google ad is working to my benefit!

One thing I changed: I stopped running the ad on Saturdays. I was getting clicks on Saturdays, but no phone calls or inquiries on Saturdays. ...I figure I need to save some money. Keeping the ad around for Sunday and Monday. It seems I am getting conversions Sundays and Mondays. ...Tuesdays are also most popular for clicks. ...Many brides searching google during the week while at work. ...Also more clicks come through to my website from MOBILE users over Desk top users. ...It's about 2/3rds mobile users coming to my web site now.

...Not sure if those statistics align with all of you, but it's what I am experiencing.

That's great information. I hadn't even thought about particular days on conversions. My current facebook ad seems to be getting fantastic engagement rates. The last ad ran 21 days and got just 165 engagements, or about 3% response rate. This one, I've run for 5 days and have 789 engagements (10% response rate) and 1 actual lead that came in yesterday. I can't tell how many were mobile from FB. Might check google analytics in a bit but I'm willing to bet it's probably the same as what you're seeing.

Great info.
Yes, mobile is where it's at - I still use and prefer a desktop but know many people 40 and under that never use one, or rarely. Phone is what they use, or a tablet.
It's why I made my dj site more mobile friendly...sucks iMO on a desktop, but gonna figure that out, or make 2 sites maybe.

That's what I like about Wix.com. Build one site and it's compatible on both platforms.

Need to throw this out for discussion. The new FB ad seems to be working well. Lots of "Likes" on both the ad, biz page and photos. Problem is, I'm not seeing significant conversion to inquiries. This morning, I started sending PM to clickers;

Thanks for clicking "Like" on our wedding photos. Is there any way I can assist you? Have a wonderful day.

Not sure how this will be received, or whether I could get into hassle with FB. I did get a positive reply from the first one. She's already booked photography but wanted her photographer to duplicate a shot we took. She did ask for my price list, however. Anyone care to offer their (useful) input? Just trying to carry forward our mutual sharing of info from FB or Adwords' advertising.

I know nothing about face book advertising except everyone I know who has done it has thought it was a waste of money. There are also quite a few websites online that dis credit face book advertising and explain why it doesn't work.

Here on odjt are the first comments I have read with positive results from FB advertising.

...Another update: This morning I had two phone calls from GROOMS who found my ad on Google. One is getting married April 1st, and wants to book, he is just waiting to get the OK from his wife. He already texted me a question obviously which came from his wife asking about me (She is at work). I gave him a good deal on price as well. Hopefully he will book today. The other one wants to set up a skype video meeting, so I will wait to hear back from him on that.

I then have two skype video meetings tonight. Hopefully I can get some more dates booked by the end of the day :)

Well...it's been a long day in sales terms.

I had 3 Skype "interview" meetings tonight with 3 couples. One Bride had network connection issues with her computer, but quickly answered my skype call on her cell phone after our dis connect and apparently had Skype app on her phone. I was able to see her through video on her phone and we did the interview. That was a first. 2 of the 3 prospects tonight thanked me for being able to skype with them.

IF YOU ARE NOT UTILIZING SKYPE FOR VIDEO MEETINGS THEN YOU NEED TO JUMP INTO A DELOREAN AND GO BACK TO THE FUTURE TO 2016! ...We still don't have flying cars, but video meetings over the Information Super Highway are the in thing. These wedding clients are busy and LOVE the convenience of Skype.

I have not scheduled an in person meeting YET this year. All of my bookings have been earned over skype video or the phone so far.

Oh yeah. 2 of the 3 couples took the time to check out my videos on you tube BEFORE responding to my initial email to them. One couple is a Gig Masters client, and the groom and bride sat down together and looked at everything including my videos BEFORE even responding to my quote.

Some of these couples are doing detail oriented research before talking with you is what I'm saying!

I also made a cool looking picture and posted it on Face book today. 6 FB friends shared my post, and tonight I received a text message due to that post. ...Someone looking for a Sweet 16 DJ for their friend's daughter. Who knows if it will turn into a booking or not, BUT it is cool that I had a inquiry due to my post being shared.

Just my experience today.

Today is one of those days which fuels my DJ passion. When things are happening on the sales side of the business, my confidence in being a DJ and doing this business as a way of making a living get's a big shot in the arm and it's a good feeling!

Did you sign any contracts on these SKYPE conversations, I have had two in person meetings this week, both signed at $1000 plus for music and simple wash lighting

Would you mind sharing these anti-FB sites? Also, any guidance on how to be successful with Google Adwords? I dabbled in it last year and it didn't seem to work for me.

Do Facebook Ads Work? Here's Your Answer.

1. Building your e-mail list by offering something good for free.
2. Send traffic to your website so that people can read a blog post or get a freebie.
3. Getting engagement from your current Facebook community.

When you really look at it, these three goals are very similar. We are using Facebook Ads to connect to targeted Facebook users and eventually get them to our e-mail list. When we are doing things like boosted post to our own Fans, each post should have the ulterior motive of getting them to our website where they get to know us more and get on our e-mail list (if they aren’t already).
This website says there are only 3 ways that Facebook ads really work:

‘Damning’ Report Says Facebook Marketing Doesn’t Work

This site states FB ads have very little display value, and FB is failing marketers.

As for Google Adwords. I thought adwords sucked my first few months using it. It was also very costly and expensive. You have to spend A LOT OF TIME in google adwords and familiarizing yourself with how to optimize your campaign. You need to choose very good keywords, and target your ads inside of your area. You need to exclude certain counties and other states so your ad doesn't show there. You should have separate ads made for separate key words. You also need to change your ad around every 2 to 4 weeks otherwise the Cost Per Click slowly rises again, and you start to lose position. It is time consuming. Google has help pages explaining the adwords.

...Most people who use adwords don't spend the time to optimize their campaigns, and really target their market. I have spent HOURS on it. You need to educate yourself on how to use adwords.

DO NOT USE DISPLAY NETWORK. That will blow your budget as your ads will show up on miscellaneous DJ videos on youtube that have nothing to do with people who are looking for a wedding or party dj. ...You need to set your campaign for Search Network only. That was the biggest difference that started to make the adwords work for me, and put my ad dollars to a better use.

It takes a lot of time and educating yourself on how to put an ad out. Run targeted specials to get the user to click on your site is also important. If you aren't running a discount, special, or giving them a price off the bat, then they will click, but not contact. My inquiries improved once I started running specials, or showing them pricing right in the ad itself. The ad must be effective.

Right now my Ad is pushing Thumb tack out of the top 3 for Wedding DJ. I want thumb tack to go away. The Pros "Wedding DJ $795" ad does not even show up on the top 3 any more because they are not optimizing their google ad enough to get there like I am.

Facebook ads as a call to action are less effective than using it as a long term strategy. Work your group and get the ads to drive people to your group you are creating a top of mind awareness among those in the group. If you have 100 people in your group just demographics would suggest at least 10% or 10 people will know someone getting married or planning a party this year that they may have some influence on. If you have 1000 people in your group that's 100 potential clients
