You're describing an acquaintance not a friend.
When a FRIEND invites me over they're sincere enough to serve something they know I and other friends would enjoy. If they are unsure about something they call and inquire. Friends actually care enough to entertain you with something you'll enjoy. Likewise, as a friend I reciprocate.
It's an acquaintance who is most likely not give this much thought, and at worse - simply push upon you what they think should be your priorities. Yes - I have the courage to say "no thank you" when someone wants to serve me something which at best I don't want, and at worse won't tolerate. If you are eating food that turns your stomach simply to "be nice" you are not being authentic - and authenticity is a necessary ingredient to real friendship.
I'll continue to be authentic in everything I do, irrespective of how many veggie burgers the people who confuse familiar for friendship choose to serve up.
