Had a beer spilled on my L1 base last night. At first it looked as if all the beer stayed on top of it and didn't go in. But when I cleaned up and rested the base against the wall, beer seeped out for about 30 minutes. It worked fine after the spill (about one more hour) and I left it on end all night and all day.

What do you think I need to do now?

It seeped for about 30 mins, not flowed. By this I mean that I left it standing against the wall for about 10 mins, then moved it. There was a small line of beer corresponding to the bottom of the speaker touching the floor. This happened two more times, each time the line of beer left there was smaller, but there.

I don't want to void the warrantee, but don't see sending it in either. That is part of my question. The evaporation issue was part of my thought process. Will it all just not matter if it is still working, or should I worry about lingering effects of what didn't evaporate?

For the record, that's the last time my L1s go to a bar gig.

For the record -- many of us bar patrons appreciate that thought... :sqwink:

It's beer dude -- it evaporates and dries out. If you are really nervous, bring it (them) inside, where the humidity is much lower during the winter, and they will dry out quicker.

Geeze, next thing ya know, you'll be worried about whether the world was created, or evolved... Who cares -- as long as it works...? :sqwink:

Aren't we cute? Dealing with that issue is much more intellectually satisfying than making clever comments about it. To each his own, I guess.

It's a speaker Hugh -- not a debate. It dries out (sorta like a debate with no purpose) :D

BTW, if you would care to debate our little pet peeve, start a thread man -- I'm game, and can act like a gentleman if need be :)

Will do, but some other time. I'm preparing to take wifey out on a date (couldn't last night) and preparing lesson plans. Darn life!

So, does that mean that you have been studying up on it?

Hugh, while I thought Rick's answer was more humorous than you did (you Bose guys really are touchy about your Bose stuff) I don't think the relatively small amount of alcohol will help much. I think beer is going to leave a residue that will be fairly obvious. Kinda icky and sticky and ohh that week, old stale beer smell is so attractive.

Maybe this is time for a test ala Mythbusters. I may be able to find some boards and switches that I can pour some (was it light beer?) beer into and see what kind of mess it makes. I bet heavy beer, Guiness maybe, makes more of a mess than Buttwiper light. The only bar stock stand-in solvent I'd use in a pinch is Vodka.

Steam cleaner baby that will clean it all up!

I had an amp that got completely packed with mud and water, it sat in a corner for a year and then I tore it down and took a high pressure steam cleaner to it. It ran for 10 more years after that with no problems!

Of course it was a Peavey!:sqwink::sqlaugh:

Tear it down and clean it out with denatured alcohol to get rid of the stickies, let it dry and put it back together

I thought Rick's comment was funny, but I'll never let him touch my Bose. Just for the record....

I don't know what it was - it was a draft and the room was dark. I never saw the #^&#^$*$%@#$ person, just the empty 32 oz cup. Don't know how full it was when it spilled.

Thanks Thunder. I will look into that cleaning idea.

Agreed, the spilled beer will leave a sticky mess and your base will smell like stale beer. It will be especially noticeable in a warm environment.

I'd suggest opening the thing and cleaning it with denatured alcohol and lint-free wiping cloths. :)
