yeah so whats that got to do with COMPUTER SPECS ???????

I have to resist!!
I was told there are computers that can do all the things Canute wants to do but why put all your eggs in one basket? What if that computer fails at a gig? Won't you have to go to a backup any way? Remember who makes computers and it's not God who is perfect.

Got news for you. The laptop I Custom ordered in 2006, ran Karaoke, DJ and Video simultaneously. It is still working. I replaced it with my new one because it did not have HDMI. The new Laptop is also doing those 3 tasks simultaneously. I really don't need another Laptop as a backup (Except for Karaoke and Video) because my Pioneer MEP 7000 is a stand alone 2 Deck Controller player.

I still say you should carry a backup laptop just in case. You never know what may happen. Nothing like this new one failing on you and you don't have a backup. I'm just saying. I was a boy scout and their model was be prepared.

Mix,

Do you have have any idea what the MEP 7000 is?

While I consider it overpriced, it is a full backup system.

Thanks for the reinforcement. It is one of the best purchases I ever made. The damn thing controls the Laptop anyway, all it needs is the songs/mp3s. By connecting a Passport Drive to it, I have foregone the Laptop several times. Add a Monitor Screen to it and you really don't need a laptop period.

I'm talking about carrying a backup laptop with you just in case if needed. I didn't say the machine you're talking about wasn't good enough to do the job. I know he knows his stuff. Haven't we all had some peice of gear fail us at some point. I used to have 2 Pioneer CDJ 800's and while playing in a club one night one of the players just stopped working. Crap like that does happen. Nothing to do but play a mixed CD of mine in the one that was working.

Mix, this piece of Equipment replaces the Laptop. It is primary compared to the Laptop. This is what is stated above, can't you read and understand?

Mix .. the MEP7000 is a stand-alone media player .. it will play songs off a hard drive without a laptop. It can also control the laptop and act as a sound card. So if the laptop dies, Canute can just use the MEP to pick, play and mix music.

Actually it has more importance then the Laptop since the Laptop needs it as a Controller and it does not need a laptop.

I guess it depends on the software and one's tolerance of using a mouse for such things. The controller is certainly easier. I don't scratch, so I can fade easily enough in software, but I'm trying to find a simple controller with the basics (stop/start, cue, pitch change, jog wheel .. maybe a loop or 2). They don't make a nice rack mount unit worth a darn any more without a complete mixer behind it. The Denon HD2500 I have is ok .. has some glitches and isn't supported by most newer versions of software without re-mapping. Might have to get a MEP ...

The only complaint I have had with the MEP 7000 is when it froze up a Seagate HD because it was not properly ejected. It rendered the Seagate useless. However, I really do believe that it is the Seagate itself because I am almost positive that I have unplugged Flash drives and a WD External 500G HD from it before, without properly ejecting and there was no problem. Other than that, it has been flawless and to me. It mixes seamlessly even better than Traktor. I have never had a bad Mix from it yet. You may be able to get one on e-bay since they are now discontinued.

Depends...

I've been using a keyboard since the late 70's or so -- I'm handy with them. Mouse, since they first came out. To me, it's far easier than a controller, a lot less cheaper, and less things to fail and carry.

What it comes down to, IMHO -- is most "computer DJs", have no clue how to use a computer...

Discontinued? Man .. A MEP7000 type device with the sound card built-in would be ideal. Don't need or want the dual cd player. I know they have a SEP, but that is just a controller and probably discontinued as well.

I like the Denon HD2500, but it has a few too many quirks. I also have a Numark DDS .. it has even more quirks. I had a Cortex HDC-1000 .. very limited.

I'm looking mainly for something I can reach over and hit play quickly. I know I can do it with a keyboard or mouse, but a 1" big button is easier. Especially if it's lit.

I would not recommend buying the MEP 7000 without the Trays. Thats where the USB inputs for the External drives are. There is nothing better than having your Backup music on an Erasable CD or Flash/External Drive that in seconds can be deployed.

I know you need it for the MEP (though I have plenty of soundcard options, so maybe if I get a good price). I was hoping there would be a good alternative .. seems the industry has moved on from these for some reason. Maybe they were a bear to keep firmware up to snuff.

When I am using Traktor I use the ESI Gigaport soundcard. When I am playing directly from the MEP I use its internal Soundcard which I believe sound much better/brighter. They stopped selling them possibly because of the price (Too High) and also to bring out their new line of Controllers. These manufacturers are constantly introducing new products so to get the new ones sold, they have to discontinue the old ones. Plus the DJs always want the new stuff so others upgrade to keep up with the trends.

SEE Told ya, mix had NO Idea what a computer does!!
