Think it has more to do with failing to adapt and a generic business model when many don’t want generic/avg/traditional anymore. Weddings are only down 10% in accordance with that article... that drop alone shouldn’t destroy an entire business. The article also said it couldn’t keep up with the competition, who weren’t necessarily cheaper, but rather weren’t strictly traditional.

My best friend manages a DB.... he's actively looking for another job but received a call from corporate yesterday.... their word is....nothing is changing...no stores closing...etc.... but ofcourse they would say that....

The funny thing is...i met him for dinner last night and he was 2 hours late because their store was so busy.... i cant imagine purchasing such an important item a 6 months to a year early from a company on shaky ground... luckily a good part of the world are highly uninformed ....especially brides with a lot on their plate...

I am certain David's Bridal will be around in 12 months. Now 24-36 months out...Maybe not.

The problem is that a lot of their sales are discount gowns and as time has marched on, their profit margins per sale have been slipping away over the years. Add to that the fact that there is a decline in weddings occurring, and has been since 2015. That is going to continue. I don't know what the fix is for them.

We did a bridal show a couple years ago where a local bridal shop was going out of business like 30 days after the show so they had dresses at close out costs. Apparently there have been a lot of bridal shops closing their doors in various areas of the country over the last 10 years since the recession. Many can't seem to make it in certain areas where some shops in certain areas are always doing booming business. ...That one shop in Atlanta that was on T.V. for a number of years, and brides would come from all over the country to to pick out their dress there. That shop has no problem turning very healthy profits.

Also, the online business has put a dent in shop business too. ...I did a wedding earlier this year where I over heard the bride saying she ordered her dress online never trying it on, and hopeful for the best, and it fit her well so it worked out.
