First Cancelation because of Corona Virus

I'm just surprised... no venue has given couples the option to cancel but rather only focus on postponements... in fact since most of these events were less than 1-3 months out, most couples have already paid at least 50-75% of their bill to the venue, which is non refundable... transferrable... but not refundable... so very very few couples are even thinking of cancelling and giving up so much money. Of course, that's just the venues... most other vendors have the same policy. I know some proms of mine are even considering doing proms on a tuesday or in july because of the amount of money that they're about to take a loss on if they cancel outright.
I think a lot of the cancellation has to do with the location of the reception. It's a small town, 3.5 hours from Seattle with only a few hotels so everything books up way in advance. When my family used to take a vacation there they would book the same week for the following year upon check out. It's a beautiful area and the views from the ceremony location are the best, but after Labor Day the weather turns and anything past early October is just gray and depressing so there may have not been anything available that, #1 their guests could find lodging, #2 the weather would have cooperated. Finally, with fire season kicking up in August and 90+ degree days, it's not very pleasant either.

Yeah I understand the demand of certain venues... likewise here as well many venues are booked 2 years in advance... and the only days open in the near term are weekdays... but the venues are still requiring postponement or lose payments made. Hence why there’s gonna be many djs doing weddings 7 days a week once this all opens up.

Nobody really knows how things are going to turn out with bookings once things get back to being somewhat normal (whatever that is). We all hope things won't go on much longer like this and not just about businesses but in general.
