I've just sold the lighting I had as it wasn't doing anything for me. Two mini colorstrips (so bright I actually was asked to turn them off) a Vue 2 (just a borefest) and a Tri-phase which was ok I guess. I'm looking for something classy. Thinking about a Blisslight 15, but they are pretty pricey but it's the only thing I can think of so far. Needs to be LED so I need not worry about power consumption. Anyone have any ideas. How about Bliss owners, do you still like as much as when you first bought?

Try H20 LED from ADJ.

I'm surprised that you got rid of the TRI-PHASE. With the proper DMX control it's a very classy light. I have 2 now and like them a lot.

As for the Bliss15 I did not find anything better yet.
Thinking of buying one more. Talk to Ben, he gave me the best deal.

But...nothing beats the disco ball with 2 moving heads. THAT EFFECT NEVER GETS OLD.

I agree... start with two decent moving heads and build your light show around them. So much you can do with spots and scrolling. I too am a big fan of the mirror ball.

moving heads

Does anybody have a preferiance to 2 moving heads?I don't have a clue which ones to start out with.

I suggest your basic package should be Chauvet RGB Strobe which is the first version of Color Pallet and they may be cheaper for your wash. If you're using DMX they can be dimmed or just use the addressing buttons/switches.

The second light you need should be the Galaxian 3D. I think it does the same job as the Bliss light and it's cheaper. You can get the Galaxian but you're better off with the "3D" version because it can rotate and be still. I find it very classy. I used it at a wedding in October were the bride was 78 and the groom was 80 years of age. It "blew" the crowd away when I turned it on during the first dance.

Those are really the only two lights you need. Just remember to get two Colour RGB Strobes, one for each side, plus it looks better. Two Galaxians are nice, but depending on the size of your hall, you really only need one.

I have mini Colourstrips as well, but haven't figured where to use them in the show, except behind me as a backdrop wash. Suggestions?

If you're looking at a blisslight, try taking a peak at Chauvet's Eclipse first, Ducky and I love ours.

I used a galaxian the other night. Really nice effect...but after a while it gets boring...The BL15 is going to run $900 cdn...frankly, I don't think its worth that unless you can upsell it...

Dean - you should have bought the ADJ Megal Pixels or the RGB 50's...they have dimming (if used on a controller). this is the primary reason whyI never bought into the Chauvet units.

For a wedding you should have wash....then I'd look at a mirror ball...Moving heads are nice...expensive though...What about a couple of barrel scanners?

I have a Tri Phase...I use it sound active and looove it!

My basic lighting package for small to mid sized weddings is; 2 Irradient pars for color wash, 2 ADJ Revo Rolls for dance floor, and 1 ADJ Revo III for ceiling. With DMX control, the Revo Roll (LED barrel scanners) can simulate a mirror ball effect.

OK Ben! Start giving us some prices on these? I sold my old school stuff, too, and would love a show with two moving heads and that Chuavet Eclipse. How about some affordable DMX software, too?

For affordable DMX show software you should check out VenueMagic (www.venuemagic.com). In addition, NLFX should also start carrying it soon. Yes, I really want you to carry it Ben ;-)

It's $375. Is that affordable? I really don't know this area at all.

Basically for wedding reception lighting you are considered with two things:

1.) Fill (color)
2.) Effect (gobos/images)

LED's are great for filling a dance floor with color. We use the Chauvet Techno Strobe RGB's they are awesome. Someone mentioned the Martin Mania EFX 600 earlier. I can not say enough about this light, it just rocks! I have about 6 of these guys and they are controlled by DMX. This kind of fixture is considered a center piece light.

Moving heads are great, but I would justify the reasons for the purchase first. We use the Elation Design Spot 250's, and our justification was ceiling washes for the lighting company. Moving heads can be pricey, hard to transport, and DMX control. You want to make sure you get some ROI from a purchase like a moving head.
