I know a lot of you folks are younger than us old farts, but let me give you a bit of the 80's...
When you went to a club, you went in style. Nothing less than an 8-ball, and a few J's. You'd drink a 12 pack before you went out, then do a few JD and cokes at the sports bar in a large frosted mug, before hitting the club.
On the way to the club (about 5 miles), you'd finish the 8-ball to sober up. When you get to the club, the first thing you do, is hook up again in the parking lot, and grab another 8. Then you pay yer $5 for free drinks until midnight, dance away, more lines, more J's, etc.
Then you get laid, and all pile in the car with another 8, for the ride to Montaulk (with a stopover in Yonkers for more) for a weekend of partying. Yeah, it was that good
Oh, and then there was Billy in between lines, chicks and J's...
