Ok here it goes.

my current site, teskc.com has an add on domain, semodj.com that redirects to teskc.com.

I want to build a new site for semodj, while it redirects to teskc (aka a div site) Then when semodj goes live I want teskc to redirect to semodj.

MDD tech support told me to seek advise from the word press community so I am turning to the authority, Randy A.!

Any advise?

And for those that are going to ask.....
teskc.com (Total Entertainment Solutions, Kansas City)
semodj.com (South East Missouri (SEMO))

A year ago semodj.com became available so I purchased it and changed my business cards, on line advertising etc. to semodj.com but there may still be past clients that have my old cards or website info.

Thanks Randy but I have gotten it taken care of. I went back to Godaddy. MDD refusal to talk person to person and refusal to help just plain pissed me off.

I'm really surprised at MDD. They're usually really decent about helping with that stuff that doesn't fall within their support scope. Copying files and databases to create development sites and the enviable headaches that would come with it doesn't fall within their support scope. It would cost them an arm and a leg to do that for every customer. MDD should have pointed you at some resources. It's really not hard; 90% of it is done right through cPanel's built in file manager.

When I moved ODJT to this new VPS, I also moved a several clients to a reseller account @ MDD. They imported the cPanel accounts within minutes after I asked.

Mike Denny is the owner did you get a chance to escalate to him? He's usually more than decent. There is a CTO or CIO who runs day to day operations, I forget his name at the moment (Tim maybe) but he can be a little challenging to deal with sometimes.

I'm not a fan of running WP on GoDaddy.

Thanks for the shout out Randy. :) I used to be the first to say GD hosting was no good but this past weekend I moved ~15 WP sites to a regular shared cPanel account for a client. I'll tell you their cPanel hosting is nothing like their old crappy in house control panel hosting. Everything moves very fast the server doesn't feel overloaded. Databases imported faster than expected and aren't crammed onto a separate (and very overloaded) database server so far as I can tell.

My opinion isn't 100% changed but I'll be managing these sites for a while. If the hosting stays as solid has it has been thus far I can see myself moving smaller sites there to save money.

Just because they don't support certain things? They do an excellent job of hosting & maintaining a website.

Please tell me how this...

Hello Curt,

You will not be able to work on a new site live at the same time that it is redirecting to a old site. The concepts do conflict. I would advise making a dev site instead of workin in the semodj.com domain. Furhter, I would advise working with the wordpress community to find the best way to do it.

Thank you,

Eric R.

is doing an excellent job on maintaining a website?

I was in chat over two hours last night, If I were able to speak to a PERSON, my questions/problems would have been answered in minuets.

I even registered a third domain with them this week and was willing to spend more $$.

I spoke with Tim this afternoon, he was very short with me. I have referred several people to them, but with crappy service like that there will be no more.

I certainly cannot blame you. Tim can be a challenge to deal with sometimes. Mike is a good egg. I think he hired Tim to be his gatekeeper so he doesn't get walked all over.

Eric's response isn't really helpful and it's his fault. As a help desk jockey he should be aware that not everyone knows the underlying concepts of hosting a website. That's why you chose a managed host.

FWIW, phone support is expensive. A ticket or chat rep might juggle 5-10 customers at once. A phone rep only deals with one customer at a time. If a client really wasn't grasping something I'd be tempted to call them and try and clear it up even though I don't offer phone support but then you set expectations for the future too.

I've been meaning to write up a guide on creating a development WordPress site. I'll put something together over the weekend on one of my tech domains. I'm glad you have everything sorted now but it'll help next time.

Keep me posted @Big Dan .
Will do.
