I bought an X Keys stick for use with RockIt on my 5 year old laptop - which has never been on the internet.

But I can't use it and sent an email to their tech department - four days and no answer.

So I'll ask all fellow computer geeks here for a possible solution. Here's the email I sent:

It has never been on the internet to remove the possibility of getting any viruses and other nasty stuff.

But when I try to load your software, it says I need a more current version of “frame.net” or something like that.

It sounds like I need to have my XP OS updated, but I really don’t want to expose this laptop to the internet.

Do I have any other options for getting your software to work on my five year old laptop?

Your machine is outdated. You have to update the Microsoft Net Framework in Windows.

Simply connecting to the internet is not going to corrupt your computer. Either download your updates al carte from Microsoft or turn automatic updates on. The latter will be a lengthy process since you haven't updated your system in a while.

The best thing to do is to install the last service pack for Windows XP.

Can I d/l that one update I need on a different machine, save it to a USB stick and d/l it on my, as you say, "outdated" machine?

Jim,

The latest framework version, may or may not work on that computer, depending on how out of date it is. As Hank mentions, your best to put that machine online to update it to the latest Service Pack and Framework -- there's no harm in doing that. The SP and Frmework need to analyze the computer they are being installed on, so it's best to do it on the computer that is being updated, to avoid any problems.

Will the latest service pack also include the latest framework?

I think they come down as separate updates if I recall correctly, although I haven't run XP in a couple years. I think the latest Framework available for XP, will require SP3 as a pre-requisite...

It is what it is Jim. Computers age faster than dogs.

However, the answer is yes. You can download service pack 3 (SP3) here. It should include the Net Framework. If not, you will have to get it manually.

I know Hank, I know. I don't consider it outdated since it is a dedicated DJ laptop virgin to the internet and has to only run Rockit.

If anything I'm the outdated one...me and my female DNA...

Nah, computer stuff isn't gender specific. I'm just a closet geek. :triwink:
You should be able to update it without issue. Good luck!
