X1usb Mixer Windows 7 USP and a Laptop with issues

JT,

I had two Numark USB mixers (the low end ones), similar to what you have (battle size). They used to have a different model name, although I sold mine off some time ago, and can't recall.

Tons of problems with those things, along with a few customers who had them as well.

Many times, only one channel would work, or both decks would end up outputting to the same channel on the mixer.

My guess at the time, was there was a quality control issue, and the DACs on the mixer may not have had enough spacing or something between the etch lines on the board. I don't know if that's what's happening in your particular case, but if they are still using the same boards, it might be...

Rick did you watch the video? Do you think the mixer is really the problem? I'm not saying what I have is some pretty cheap stuff..but all of a sudden?

That said...I'm working in cash now not credit with the business. I really hate to buy something these days...but I'm leaning Denon if I buy new...I think I may try external USB card then analog to the mixer. Heck I've now got 3 Numarks and all of the RCA sides work perfect.

I'm still leaning on the fact my lappy is 3 years old....hmm...

Man you do bring up good ideas on this matter. I really appreciate the view/post

JT,
Try it that way summer is coming up and I'm ordering 2 NI sound cards for the rigs to have 4 deck control and stop using the HC4500's sound card with another one from another brand this way I'll use the Denon for the control of the 4 decks and the NI card for sound on said 4 decks with no problems with different latency values between different cards. This to my trusted Rane & A&H mixers. People have complained about the sound quality from VDJ which seems to have been addressed for version 8 however I have no complaints with sound quality with my files or system.

Yeah, I watched the video -- nice hat :)

Don't know what the problem is -- it's not in front of me. All I know is some of those cheapy USB mixers from Numark have issues. Perhaps if there's feedback between the channels (the etching on the mixer board is bad), it could be feeding back through one of the USB cables into the computer...

Could be feeding back and creating a loop, where the USB port gets disabled. Remember they have power and ground lines.

Try lifting the ground on the lappies power supply, just for S&G...

Lifting ground is exactly what I'm thinking too! However...As a suggestion from Dennis in the other thread I left the lappy powered by its charger and removed the battery. USB picked up just fine. So either I DJ on battery or I DJ on AC or I plug in the lappy AFTER plugging in the USB. Either way, for now, I think I'll lift the ground from the AC charger to start.

DJ SVO. Buying stuff is the last thing I want to do. But if I do I like your ideas...just use a controller to control the program and use a dedicated external sound card to manage the audio...either that or Denon 6000 is on my radar too...

I'm finally into cash savings in the business. For years I've been using money from gigs to pay for kids and putting the business on CC. Now I'm able to pay off everything because business is just rolling right along. I don't ever want to go into CC debt again so I'm shaking out every issue I have and working through this. I have 3 of these mixers. 2 are the same. The 2 identical ones (X1USB) are better and newer than the other USB Numark I have. I wish I had my older DXM01USB mixer. That thing was the first generation of these kind and never failed on connection. RCA port broke off on a channel or two so I got rid of it to a friend. I'm thinking I'll ask for it back!

On a side note its not that I'm into cheap gear...I've just been working on getting my light show to where it needs to be (in my head.) I now have to go back to my roots and remember the music comes first!

For upcoming gigs I'm just going to setup 2 laptops and two mixer with the output of the other mixer going to one of the analog channels of my main mixer in case the USB stops. Good to go! Not perfect but damn near fool proof.
