Will Microsoft, Dell, Gateway, or any company that deals with PCs do that?

Papa,

With Microsoft, Dell, Gateway, or any company that deals with PCs you don't need to a meet with a genius for 1 hour a week to run it!

So, the first time you sat in front of a PC you knew everything there was to know?

I bet you didn't know anything about computers when you started using them... same thing, except this is ANYTHING about your Apple. They will teach you about all the software as well as hardware. Nobody just picks up new technology without having to take time to learn it no matter what it is.

If I didn't already know how to use iMovie or iTunes, I could just set up an appointment... and, BTW, we have many DJs here who admit they don't know how to use iTunes or work with digital music in any form. So, if they had their Apple, and the genius plan, they would be cool de la.

All you Apple haters don't bother me none... I have PC and Apple... so I have the best of both worlds. And, BTW, if I chose to, I could run Windows on my Apple. Legally.

Papa,

I still know nothing about computers, but I use PCs and they just work 99% of the time!

I'm not an Apple hater -- I have one too. :)

Granted, it makes a fine movie viewer, and keeps the papers from flying off my desk.

Unfortunately, I don't find it suitable for real work. Coming from a manual background, their paradigm does not mimic what I am used to, nor comfortable with. Windows is much more familiar to me, and the way I used to work on paper, or in real life.

I also don't like their closed development environment -- to me, it stifles the creative juices, and I'm not real fond of giving some of my profits to them, just to write some software that runs on their pretty aluminum machines.

I do gotta admit their packaging is cool though -- took me a while to figure out how to get my iPod Touch outta the box, without breaking it :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

Oh, and then there's the man purse, Starbucks faggy thing... :sqerr:

You keep bringing up that man purse thing. me thinks thou dost protest too much, and got your butt whipped earlier in life for carrying one.... :sqlaugh:

So, that's prefect. What if you needed to make a spreadsheet, or a database, or use Windows Movie Maker? Do you know every facet of MS word? And what if you wanted to do it really well. Wouldn't it be nice to know that for less than $2 an hour, you could have a one on one consultation with an expert?

And by "you", I mean the proverbial you... Wouldn't ANYBODY like to have access to an expert for under $2 an hour to have a face to face instructional meeting?

Again, i don't care if people don't like Apple stuff, or think it is too pricey... maybe it is, but I'll pay the price to enjoy what I like... Some people like $100,000 cars and buy them. I think that's nuts. To each their own.

I'm 50/50 on Apple. Part of me really likes the ease of use overall while having one the most powerful shells right under the hood you can float through OS X without ever using it or get down to the nitty gritty. The other part of me says the pricing is a total ripoff. Ghz for Ghz and GB for GB you get much more for your dollar with a 'white box' PC.

Hands on training is hands down the best way to learn anything. :)

Nah, actually came from a pretty functional family. :)

My parents were the coolest people I ever met, and encouraged me to do anything I wanted. Got my butt whipped a few times, but never for carrying a man purse -- usually had to do with breaking something, or somebodies daughter... :sqcool: :sqlaugh:

But as far as computers, I looked at yer last post.

If you need somebody to teach you how to do something that is just an extension of yourself, then it is not natural to you, or your way of living/thinking. A computer should work the way YOU do, and not make you change to work the way IT does.

IMHO, nature designed us to work in a certain way -- when we go against that, we are fighting against natural forces. Some think they have a better way than Ma Nature -- they usually get blown away in a hurricane, or earthquake... :sqerr: :sqwink:

Hey, I just got to this site, so I am new to the thread :p
I have been an IT tech for about 17 years, and I build and service PC's in my spare time (i.e. - just about all the time!).

What you are describing sounds way more like a driver or a heat issue than anything else. Try updating the drivers on your card first, and follow the instructions (take out the old drivers, restart, install new drivers, rinse, repeat). If that doesn't fix the issue, try running it with the case side open and put it in the coolest place possible... try pointing a fan at it at about 3'-5' away (too close and a fan's motor can actually erase your hard drive, or worse, magnetize your monitor!) and see if that helps.

What operating system are you using? Do you know the maker and model of your video card and motherboard?

Chuck the original poster is on vacation in Mexico for the next couple weeks so I doubt you'll be getting a response anytime soon. :)

I wish he'd hurry up and come home......

there could be more than what you even discribe - I aint getting into a pi**ing match on who thinks what or who should do this or that

if papa decides to do its all his own choice

I been in the IT industry for 16x years and you never stop learning

Let me know if any of that worked. I am checkin out this thread a couple times a day now lol.

See post 15. And I am back... : )

LOL
woops?

IDK how I breezed right by that one. I think its cuz the thread started going out of topic, so I just skimmed to the end. I am glad you got it working again, but you could have gotten a card for WAY cheaper than that. I just remade my old rig (Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz, 6gb ram) for my daughter... its actually the "family computer"... anyway, it DID have a GeForce 8800 Ultra KO in there, but it literally fried. Thats one of the reasons I upgraded and just made a whole new rig.
Well, about the only thing I had to replace on there was the sound card and graphics card. Since I have a bajillion PCI sound cards, that one was easy.... dumped a X-Fi Platinum in there, done deal.
The graphics card I figured I would need to spend at least $100 on. After all, I had an ASUS Striker Extreme motherboard in there, and it was only PCI-E that I could get, not a PCI or AGP card (I have a few of those lyin around too). I ended up spending $14 on a GeForce 6800 PCI-E card with 128mb of memory. Its a crap card for people who do a lot of gaming, but for what anyone else in my family uses it for, its great. It can actually play most games, even new ones. She plays Sims 3 on it with ALL the expansions, no problem. Of course all the bells & whistles are turned off, but its still easily playable and good looking.

Point is, check out www.pricewatch.com for cheap deals. Personally I almost never shop anywhere but www.newegg.com for my stuff (thats where I got that card) but you can definitely find VERY cheap stuff from reputable dealers by using pricewatch.

So Papa how did you go ?

- you fix it ?
- bought new one ?
- sold it ?
- threw it out the window ?

please explain
