Rick I had the Truths at one time and I did like them when mixing down in the studio and they lasted for a little over 4 years (not bad for the money) before they started having issues, I have had the KRKs ever since with no issues, the KRKs although not as flat as the Truths are not bad for the work I do.

I sit with a laptop in my lap and use headphones 90% of the time. I have a mental feeling for the audio differences between my headphones and my DJ system and go with that as a sense of what a song would sound like at a gig.

My home audio system sounds completely different than my DJ system and I have absolutely no sense of the differences making it unusable for editing but very nice for pure enjoyment.

Having just made a statement about my KRKs not having any issues! It would appear that the amp just went out on one of them! Seems like 4 years is the best that any of them in that price range can do.:trisad:

Now for the short term I am using a pair of Peavey impulse 6" with a dome for monitors, (not even close) until I can get another set of reference monitors in!

I use the passive Truths Steve -- they are wonderful for the dollar :)

I run them off a small Samson reference amp. Too many things to break on active monitors, although my Edirols have performed exceedingly well to date...

I am now at that route as I have a reference amp already (running the Impulse through it now) but it means putting another amp in to run the ZX1's (unless I take them down and put up a pair of RCF actives). I think you are right though for the money the passive Truths do look pretty good and having had the actives I already know the sound!
