Still love Rockit! But I am buying OTSAV today, I think.

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Papa, what is the difference, what does OTSAV have that rockit doesn't? I am seriously asking!!

1. It Can do karaoke.
2. It Can do Shoutcasting
3. It does slide shows better IMHO
4. It beatmixes and stabilizes audio better
5. Video Jocking is easier
6. You can make the screen bigger or smaller and move it around without screwing up the controls
7. It supposrts Drag n' Drop in the playlists and work areas
8. And as I found out one night after stomping on my power cord several times OtsAV continued to play even though I had no control over the computer at all. (Don't try this however it is a highly overrated way to DJ) ;)

Don't get me wrong Rockit is a great program in it's own rights and has features the surpass OtsAv especially in the search arena.

When you're beatmixing challenged it saves your butt ;) , Bryan Durio and Jumpin' Jeff are the most knowledgeable people around here that use OTS I hope they chime in ;)

I played with it and it does have some impressive features, but (Once again you knew it was coming ;) ) it just automates things too much. I've had tons of fun with VDJ since it can be tweaked a little bit more and you still have to work it to get a good mix. The same thing with Rockit you need to know how to mix old school style to really take advantage of them.

With Rockit to beatmix you need to know how to do it to get the most so it makes things more fun, you actually have to work ;).

It's simple, it's not a resource hog and it gets you back to basics in other words it gets a 2 thumbs up from me ;)

I used to use OtsDJ Silver for my cocktail and dinner music but now do it all in Mixmeister. Ots does auto-mixing very well indeed with nice radio-style segues. But the auto-beat-mixing is not automatic. In order to accomplish that, you will need to set your mix-points up ahead of time. You cannot preview a mix with Ots, you have to run blind with it. Gotta run, I'll be back!

You won't get any argument from me, as I think OTS is a great piece of software :)

I don't really like their interface much (in fact, less than much), but it does an outstanding job in certain areas, much like Rockit in it's areas.

Limiting oneself to one piece of software, is not always the best thing to do, as they each have their advantages in certain situations. For example, I use many different text editors -- I use Word for writing letters and invoices, UltraEdit for coding, and Notepad for simple things.

I look at it sorta like speakers: You might want to use your Bose for classy weddings, your JBL's for frat parties, and rent Val's system for the larger places

And Rockit is a whole lot less money, PLUS we have Rick!

Then, can I ask what makes you want to purchase it?

His wife just gave him his allowance...? :sqlaugh:

You know my kid, he's a chip off the ol' block -- gotta have at least 5 of everything :)

Incorrect, yet funny.

We have a deal in our house. Basically anything under $300 we don't ask each other.

Yes I am OK....

So now I am having a hard time getting this Lame Encoder thing working.... Apparently I need to do that before OTS will work right.

You married guys are toooo funny man...

It's really easy justifying things to Faith... :sqwink:

Me: Faith girl.........

Faith: Yes Daddy?

Me: We really need a pool table -- one of the good ones, like in a bar or pool hall.

Faith: Why?

Me: Because, when I knock a ball off the table, you get to go catch it!

Faith: Way cool! :)

Life is really easy, when ya make it that way

I found OTS too much software for what I do I like to keep it as simple as possible

I do plan on donating to the Rick beer fund eventually but for the time being it"s Mixmeister 6 for me

Rick,

Something I need to ask, because of the recent loss of one of my systems. Are you allowed to keep a backup copy of Rockit on a second computer for that just in case situation it took three days for me to get the codes for my karaoke program for the new laptop and now they want me to purchase another copy for my backup unit. While I already have purchased three other copies for the other KJ systems. Although I carry a full disc system with me when strictly DJing, I don't do that with the Karaoke because of the weight and bulk of a regular disc based KJ system.

One thing I will have with me from now on is a second Laptop already loaded and ready to go! While the other systems are setup with regular desktop computer, CDG player, full blown boards, effects engines, compressors, CDG disc set, etc., mine uses a single desktop digital board and a laptop mounted on a docking station/port replicator, I have no redundacy built into my personal system.

I wanted to get away from the conventional DJ system as well but I am afraid to do that when it comes to weddings etc.
