Well, I made the call... Stagemate.

The Stage mate is not in the same class as a Bose L Compact. You and I both know that.

Here are some products to compare a Stage mate to. I chose them based on these factors:

- 1 box
- Internal Rechargeable Battery
- Similar advertised wattage
- I've seen/heard them all in use.

Alesis Trans active Mobile

Anchor Audio Explorer

Crate Limo

PylePro Battery Powered PA
If you read what my uses they are for both and I'm not trying to compare them within the same class. I'm trying to decide which one would be best in different situations. You yourself wouldn't use a compact for a wedding on the beach. If people are paying good money I would. However a bubble party doesn't warrant a compact when a Stagemate would do just fine.

From the looks of those other units the Stagemate seems to be on the top of that class. One of those was being sold on Walmart. Not quite what I'd consider professional quality. The first one only had a 22 watt peak. That one might sound kind of weak. I'd have to listen to them to make a good comparison. To date I've only heard the Stagemate and the Compacts, so those are the only units I can truly comment on. However the compact is not battery powered.

Light weight, easy setup, good sound, decent price for it's intended use. The stagemate would handle all of those. Compared to what I'm using now (JBL Eon's & Compacts).

Ron, you could even get the slave speaker for it to give them the full effect. :)

It's nice to hear that Fred likes it since I am always suggesting it to people but do not own one. Don't worry, I make sure they know I've never heard one before.

I'll probably pick one up someday...

Hey Fred! I got my speaker stand bags today from Carvin...:sqwink:

I'll have to snap a couple shots and post 'em later. The quality is much better than I expected and the bags are bigger than I had originally envisioned. :)

Mic stand must be showing up tomorrow...:sqwink::sqwink:

Wow... I go to work for a day and come back to another Bose war.

And it was so nice and quiet around here, too...

Folks, I didn't (and don't) have issues with Ron's mention of Bose in this thread. It's about portable PA anyhow and Ron's mention was of portable PA. Not battery powered, perhaps but portable.

Where my issues lie is the war mongering that always seems to appear whenever Bose is mentioned. Then it starts getting personal. That stuff is so unnecessary.

If someone were to be searching the Web for reviews on the Stagemate and came across this thread, he'd see a bunch of DJs arguing about stuff that has nothing to do with the Stagemate. :(

But I digress. Jon, we haven't gotten any ripe tomatoes yet but it shouldn't be much longer. Looks like a couple of cucumbers are about ready to be picked as well. Gotta love Miracle-Gro. :D

Edit: All the Bose BS has been moved to the trash bin. Please try to stay on topic. :)

I have been eating matters out of the graden for the past two weeks! LOL

If we didn't have fertilizer we wouldn't have vegetables. :sqcool:

that's all fine, but you fertilize what you want to grow... you still have to pull out the weeds.

(wait a second... wow.. that was deep!)

Hey, didn't I get spanked for not talking about the Stagemate?:sqerr: I kinda liked it.

opps, yes, but what I meant was, as you are pulling the weeds, you can play the stagemate for background... sorry, I'll leave now... :sqeek:

The Carvin looks like a simple solution to several problems!

I don't deny or endorse the Bose
but if I had one, I wouldn't rent it to ANYONE!
especially if it required a novice to hook it up to a car battery!

I'll agree with the Carvin. It still have many possibilities

No matter what is being rented you can't look at it like personal property. It is a piece of equipment owned by the business and used to make money. Certain pieces of equipment get a higher price for rentals more so than others. Contracts and credit cards also help to protect those pieces of equipment in the case of damage. I'm sure there is also insurance rental companies purchase for protection. Rental companies do this all day everyday. They don't worry about how much they paid for the equipment. They worry about how much they need to rent it for to get their ROR. The replacement cost and damages are all spelled out in the contract. Tax write offs also help when the inevitable happens.

I'd love to learn more about renting equipment and the proper way to do it.

FYI, it wouldn't be hooked up to a car battery. It would be plugged into a 110 outlet of an inverter battery pack, if it were being used in that manner. No different than plugging it into a Honda generator or even a wall outlet.

yeah, a good insurance policy...makes all the difference!
and I know about the inverter, just used one at a ceremony last month.
I was talking about connecting the little spring clips on the inverter to the battery. You know some idiot will connect them AFTER they plugged your Bose into the inverter and turned it on!

True !! if the Inverter / Generator is "Pure Sine Wave" then it's the same as A.C :sqwink:

I was speaking with one of the Bose engineers at the Mountain here in Framingham. We also had the gentleman who created the L1's and compacts with us in the studio. We ask them about hooking up the compact to a generator. It was the engineer who went into the other room and brought back a Black and Decker jump starter with AC inverter. He had tested the unit to see how long it would last using this power source. We also asked about the output power from such a device. He assured us there was no problem with the compacts worrying about any power fluctuation from an inverter or generator. I can only believe the word of the people who created and built these units. This info wasn't coming from a salesman in a store. And since I was standing in the same room with them it was clear to me.

That's why I would never rent them in this manner. If they wanted a speaker for outdoor with no power available I'd buy a stagemate.

LOL.... and this:

Has something to do with the Stagemate? :)

All kidding aside, this is a great thread, and your reviews were very enlightening. Ruben has been cool enough to offer to let me borrow his and check it out... one of these days, I will have to - but then I know now I will need to get one!

Good reason to dust off the $100 in Carvin gift-certs Ive been sitting on for about 4 years:) (good thing they don't expire!)
