I just checked out Limewire and they have the Chris De Burgh's version tagged as: Roy Orbison - Lady In Red (Original)

The more I thought about this thread, the more I figured that Roy Orbison would NEVER go so far as to record "The Lady In Red". Roy was a songwriting great and had around 30 years of hits to his credit. On the other hand, "The Lady In Red" was a new song in 1986, and Roy died in December of 1988. Around that time, "The Lady In Red" wasn't as popular as it is now.

Roy was in the middle of a huge career comeback when he died... I don't think he would've re-recorded somebody else's recent hit as part of that comeback, especially where the song was still relatively new.

Just checked ASCAP and no Roy listed on any of their entries. Chris DeBurgh's listed so we know it's an ASCAP license.
