Just a thought here...

If I use any of the major search engines, I can find my websites listed in the top 5, using almost any search term people might use.

Even so, if I stop my advertising, I sell very few products... :sqerr:

I wouldn't put all that much faith into search engines and ranking -- proper advertising will win the day anytime. It takes money, to make money... ;) :)

I don't mean to contradict what you say, but I only ONLY ONLY ONLY advertise with the search engines...

I rank #1-#5 for my targeted keywords and I have been using the search engines as the MAIN source of my advertising for over 4 years now.

The last bridal show I did was in 01/07

The last magazine ad I had was in 07/07

I've never done an open house, unless it was a close and personal friend of mine...

and I'm getting booked at $750 for a basic DJ package...

$1,200+ if they want to use me as their DJ and Uplighting and Monogram and everything else is additional...

I get well 30 leads a month... and by leads, I mean people who actually submit their information into my contact form... (not including phone calls)

If people are going to your website, and not buying your products or services... it's time to find out what they want and give it to them, so that you can get them to take action....

I explain it on my wedding marketing blog, Blogging For Wedding Vendors Blog in an article called 128 Online Leads in 4 months...

Today, the only advertising I do is Search Engine Marketing (Organic, not paid) and The Knot.com but most of my inquiries come from the search engines...

Exactly the opposite here.

A large portion of my advertising is done on the net, and I can track where people come from -- it's from the ads, not searches...

Key point here: The people that come from searches are shoppers -- the people that come from the ads are buyers -- who would you rather have...? :)

Hmm... interesting...

I don't do any PPC advertising... and I'm booked solid from the organic results...

I would agree with the last comment. The majority of the people that come through a site, from organic traffic, are merely doing research... but that does not mean that they can be converted (with a bit of effort) into buyers... They need a little more convincing and a little more thought about what benefits they are looking for...

It really is worth the effort to look into... I'm constantly looking for ways to improve the number of visitors to my site and the number that convert from visitors into leas and into clients...

I think there is a major dfference in how people research and purchase services versus products.

Not that I've found Wes...

That's why they call things widgets in marketing school -- it doesn't really matter what it is -- product, service, whatever.

If your marketing campaign can sell people, then you don't have to be a salesman :)

Me either Wes... it's more of the position that the person is... either they are researching a product or service.. which means their mentality is more of "let me see what's out there and what my options are"

Or they are ready to purchase where their mentality is... "Let me see what is the best option/value for my Money"

And that applies to both products or services...

Let me give you an example. This is going on with me right now. I've always wanted to go digital. After running across (but not specifically looking for) ads for the Pioneer MEP 7000, I've now got it on my soon-to-purchase list. It's not like I went online and searched for 'digital media players'. In fact, to this day I still haven't done that. But, I have gone to youtube to find videos on that unit, which sealed the deal for me.

In contrast, I don't think I have ever hired a service based on ad I've run across. Those type things I search for online or in the phonebook, but only when the need arises.

There are exceptions, but in general this is how I operate. YMMV.

Wes,

Save yerself lots of money and time, and buy ROCKIT PRO DJ
The #1 choice for mobile DJs

It never goes out of date, the sliders never need replacing, and you get to talk to me :)

Now, you could search for say "computer dj software", and you'll find me -- but I'm already here, ready to help, and ready to rock! It's also only $129.95! ;) :)

Does it come with a free laptop and soundcard? My problem with laptops is I'm not the 'IT' type. When my computer breaks, I have to take it to the shop. So I would have to have two laptops at a minimum to remain stress-free during my events. Full computer based DJing is not for me. I'm just not tech-savvy enough.

Wes,

Marketing lesson above notwithstanding -- you could buy a couple of computers for the price of the MEP... ;)

They can also be used for other purposes :)

If you can play that bass as well as I've seen -- you are plenty tech savvy enough, to run a computer based system.

Thanks Rick. It is something I've cosidered. I just wish I shared your confidence in me. :)

Wes, I'm not trying to sell you on my software -- you decide what you want.

As a fellow musician though, you obviously already have the skills needed to do a gig, using whatever is available.

I think Pio makes some decent products, but a fine tuned computer can do more, for a lower price point.

Just a thought here -- not only have I potentially gotten another customer (and I would be very pleased to have Wes as a customer), I have marketed my company and a product at the same time!

You can call that organic, or any other term -- I call it working for a living :)

Did I mention I LOVE my job :sqcool:
