Name The Most Important Piece.

For Me I will say "my External Hard Drive", it is the most important and expensive piece of gear that I have in my rig. Everything else can be easily replaced. Most of my music are promo reviews on MP3 formats so I cannot revert back to a CD for re-ripping. Even though the ones that were ripped can be re done, the time and expense to do so is phenomenal.

Ahhh...there is the issue.
In the original post you said most "important" component, but in your own answer you respond with your most "irreplaceable" component. Two entirely different things.

Read my first sentence again! I stated "what is" then went on to explain "Why".

I'd say the compressor/limiter. :)

Bro Fred, Enlighten me here. Are you saying that YOUR Compressor/Limiter is the most important and valuable ($$$$) piece of equipment in YOUR rig?

Houston...
you ask questions that have no real answer
and you pick apart the responses because they don't answer them "properly"
sometimes I think you start threads just to p*ss people off!

AND I LOVE IT!!!!

I'll try, Brother Houston. :)

In my thinking, the C/L is a protective device. When set properly it will protect speaker systems from damage due to a dropped mic, feedback honks, overdriving etc. I see this as value because it eliminates costly repairs to speaker systems.

When you're running as much amp headroom as we do a C/L is a must.

Thoughts?

Ausumn, what do you mean by "no real answer"? After many people have answered, I sometimes do a recap to see where the majority lies. If I ask someone what time it is and they in return give me an answer about the weather, then thats not a real answer is it?

Ok, so its fair to say that in YOUR rig, YOUR C/L is the most important and expensive piece of gear, right? This is what I am trying to clarify. Thanks!

just pulling your chain!
I was just noticing that some of your posts are opinion questions...
(perhaps I should have said "there is no RIGHT or WRONG" answer!)
But everyone seems to have a hard time figuring out exactly what you are asking, and answering it "in the correct way..."

that's also why I opted to give you a hard time about it
rather than trying to answer your question!
:sqeek:

just me, being difficult!

just pulling your chain This is the Modern age Of Technology, I don't have a chain. a push button, yes! :sqlaugh:!

Well lets put it like this. You ask someone the question "How long does it take you to fall asleep?" The person answers, "Err, I know some folks who take a long time to fall asleep, some have to take sleep aids."
Now tell me, is that a proper answer to the original question? :sqwink:

Correct! You win the prize!

If you recall yer boolean logic, there is only true or false. They are essentially opposites -- each having no meaning, thereby lending no credence to what is chosen. It's simply one or the other...

I get what Mike's sayin'... :)

Go back to the original question. It calls for an answer of personal preference in one's own situation. Similar to asking someone "What is your favorite color?". there is no right or wrong answer just a personal preference relating to one's own living.
Where is the true or false of which you are "speaking"? I did not even give a choice or list from which to choose, because I have no idea what a participant may have in his/her rig.

After a certain period of time, the answers will reveal a collection of personal preferences/choices. Just as in this thread.

Sorry -- didn't know I was a subject of a genetic study... :sqerr:

BTW, did yer first piece reject you -- or is your present doing so? :sqlaugh:

It's a subjective question, yet you argue with the answers given... :dontknow:

Well... the C/L isn't the most expensive piece. My apologies if I misconstrued the intent of the thread.

I believe it to be the most important simply because it protects the more expensive pieces. Like the $35.00 circuit breaker that prevents an electrical fire in a $350,000.00 house. :)

Since you said "piece of equipment" instead of thing (which would be "me"), it would be the amp. I can run at least simple effects from my player if the mixer fails. I run two players instead of a dual drawer, so I'm backed up that way. My music is on discs (so not "equipment"). A singer could conceivably sing micless and Acapella. However, I run passive speakers- which require an amp- to do the best style of show.
