Booking based on my family

I just booked a wedding this morning and this is what they wrote after the initial email. I always ask inquiries how they heard of me and this is what they said.

We came across your campany from a simple google search... Kate and I read the profile about your family and Kate would not even look at another option!

I had been told in the past by some DJs that I shouldn't put family stuff on my site. Glad I didn't listen. Here is the page on my site.

I know a lot of DJ's who do this. Me included. A guy in Florida named Skip Kelly also posts his family online on his website.

I suppose that most of the commentary regarding that has to do with online safety etc, but I personally see no harm in posting a pic of the family.

Great job Karl, and glad to see a picture of you finally.

I don't know why, I always imagined you as dark haired with a beard!!

You've told the world where you and your family live. On facebook you've even provided a map.. They know where you work. Anyone could probably figure what schools your kids go and you've posted pictures of them for the world to see.

Its a crazy world out there with identity theft and all that. Don't know if I'd want to put myself out there as much....I'd feel a bit exposed....
 
You guys worry too much. I guess you can't worry too much but I live in a rural area, everyone in town knows who I am, where I live and that I am a DJ.

Even if I didn't have the address on Facebook, it wouldn't be hard to find where I live, just ask someone. There is only 1 school in this town. So that isn't too hard either.

I know things can happen anywhere but this isn't the big city. It isn't even a city. It is a small rural town.
 
Never post private info on the web. Once it's there, it's there for good.

Stop and think why most radio DJ's don't use their real names?
 
Yeah Radio DJs need to protect their privacy they might be on a mafia hitlist if they revealed their true names. Its a scary and dangerous job why do you think its nearly become an extinct art?

I thought that was due to computers and cheap execs. trying to squeeze a quarter out of a nickel by not having live jocks.... who knew... :triwink:
 
Just got this from another Bride who contacted me yesterday. She seemed so excited that I had her date open that I had to ask if she had seen me before. Here is what she said.
Thanks for getting back to me! I have not seen you anywhere, but your website was very inclusive with what you provide and nothing (other than the extra mileage) has an added extra cost. The fact that you meet with your clients before and play througout dinner and dance, as well as entertaining the crowd was what really drew my attention to hiring you. I also like that I was able to read about you as a person and that you are not just a company who sends a dj out. I am so happy to hear that July 30th is open! My fiance and I are meeting with our pastor on Thursday to finalze our date, but I'm almost 100% positive that we will be getting married on July 30th. I would appreciate it if you would email me a copy of the application to fill out and then we can go from there.

With this booking (if she does book, it is pending on my list) this will be 12 for next year. Last year I had 3 or 4 at this time on the books.

Things are looking good for 2011. Hope it keeps up.
