I just ordered the new Denon DNMC6000 and waiting for it to arrive! How to I go about developing a mapper to use it with Rockit Pro? And do I really need a mapper or will this mixer work with just plug and play?

Thanks

Mary

Hey M,

I don't have one, so I don't have a mapper developed for it. Yer the second person that has asked me about it in a few weeks though. If it follows Denon tradition, your best to try starting with the 4500 (or 2500) mapper in Rockit. Odds are, that the two main deck controls will be the same.

If not, I can get together with Silvio at Denon, and see if I can get the MIDI codes for it.

There may even be an appendix in the manual that lists the codes I can use. When you get it, give me a shout, and we'll go from there... :)

Never heard of or mixed with Rockit Software, how does it compare to Serato & Traktor?

It's got a cooler name, and there's a heck of a lot less coming out of your wallet... :)

Did I mention you get to talk to the developer...? :D

I still cant get my 6000 to work with it... would the map for Virtual DJ help you at all?

Is Rockit communicating with the controller...?

On the Config->Control options, make sure you have Use Controller checked, choose the 2500 mapper, or the Numark Total Control just to get started, and then click the Save button. Rockit has to be restarted with the controller attached and turned on.

Once restarted, go back to Config->Control, and click the MIDI Learn button. It will give you the MIDI status, and what devices it can see.

Depending on your version of Windows, you may need to change the MIDI input device to 1, instead of 0 (zero) -- Vista and above usually require a 1 (one), since they tend to use the default zero channel for other things in Windows.

Once you have the controller communicating, we can go from there.

@Jacob -- It was page 20, not 27... :D

Ok Rick - Where do we go from there?

St. Barts or Antigua -- I haven't decided yet... :D

Oh, you mean the controller... :)

Well, if you can verify that Rockit does indeed see the controller, then I would first try the 2500 mapper, to see if the basic functions will work, such as Play, Pause, etc. The Cue button should be Stop on Rockit. It looks like the minimal set on the 2500 mapper will probably control the most important stuff on the 6000.

If not, open the MIDI Learn utility in Config->Control. You then get to press lots of buttons, move sliders and wheels, and basically setup the new map, which I would then save as cmap-denon-mc6000.

I will not attempt to BS you though -- a good portion of Denon controller stuff is hardcoded into Rockit, because of the way they setup their channel mappings and MIDI codes. If they've deviated much from what they did with the 4500 and 2500, it may require me recoding Rockit to work with it. I'll help out the best I can, but without having one attached to my development machine, it's trial and error... ;) :)

Ok, I am going to try that now too.... Turning on my MC6000 as we speak.... oh yeah, and I am gonna post some pics of it in another thread. I have a custom MC6000 that looks amazing (if I do say so myself... and I do).

Ok, still won't work. I can get the MIDI Learn to see my Korg NanoKontrol, but not my MC6000 no matter what I do. I even a uninstall/re-install and still nothing. Used all the mappers available, tried learning every knob, button, slider, and wheel... set all my midi inputs to everything... nothing.
What about the switches on it? There is things like PC MIX and INT MIX, and other things like that. Have you talked to Silvio about that? Right now mine is set up to be used with Virtual DJ as a 2 deck controller with the mixer on the unit. You can make it a 4-deck unit, but you have to use the internal mixer (as I understand it).
Is there a knob or button I am missing somewhere?

Have you talked to Silvio about that?

Nah, haven't heard from him since they started putting the VDJ name tag on their hardware... ;)

Unless they are willing to ship me an evaluation unit (which I would send back unscathed), I have no intention of buying one at retail. Like I said, it's trial and error at this point, and I have no clue as to what any of the switches do on it.

It's sorta hard to figure out how something works with your code, unless you have one sitting on your desk. If Windows can see it as a MIDI device, Rockit will see it as a MIDI device (Rockit doesn't do HID).

Yes I'm having problems mapping the Denon 6000 as well. Might have to break down and buy the upgrade to the VDJ software but I hate to because I love my Rockit Pro! So until I have time to play around with my new mixer I will just be using my old one - I have a wedding tomorrow so it won't be until next week that I can start messing around with it. But one way or another, I'm excited about my new Denon 6000 - I will figure this all out!!! Stay tuned!

Not really sure I'd refer to that as an upgrade... ;)

Unless one of you folks that has one, is willing to pick up the phone -- I can't help walk you through the process of getting it talking to Rockit on a chat board...

Based upon a quick read of their manual, I see no immediate reason why it should not work with Rockit.

Upgrade VDJ = $175

Chat with Rick = Priceless

Thanks Rick, Let me know what day next week is good for you - I appreciate the help!

Any day is fine Mary -- in fact, I should be around most of the weekend (daylight hours). If you've got a specific block of time that works for you, just shoot me an email, and I'll make sure I'm around :)

I'm easy to work with until the sun goes down -- then I turn into a vampire or something... :D
