That Ashly crossover you have. 1/4 jack in/out........is T/R (unbalanced) or T/R/S (balanced?)

That piece looks interesting. Do tell......
Thanks!

I don't use any processing. Not sure just what processing is anyway. Seems a very vague term.

Although after playing in that very large and boomy horse arena last Saturday night, I'm sure I could have used some kind of processing, especially for the live mic announcements done by others.

That is exactly what processing is for.

Common processors for dj's are

EQ - used to cut or boost certin frequencies (just a more precise tone control)
Compressor - used to soften peaks in music.
Limiter - used to set a brick wall (no matter how high you put your volume control your amp will not play any louder that what you set the limiter for)
Crossover - used in multi amped/speaker system (splits the frequencies fed to tops and subs)

Time Alighment processor (slightly delays one frequency) this is done if your subs and tops are far enough apart that it causes a delay between the two.

That Ashly is Vintage. That was one of the pieces I stsrted out with in 1978, a full three way system. JBL Bass bins, EV Midrange Cabinets and EV Tweeter cabinets with three brute force amps. I use TRS 1/4 for my connections but they can be used Balanced or Unbalanced.. Another one of the reasons for good processing.

The Ashlys keep their value. That unit now costs more than I paid for it back then. I am thinking of upgrading it to the Ashly XR-2001. http://www.ashly.com/spec-sheets/xr2001.pdf View attachment 24402
I like the fact that apart from the Master Gain inputs and Outputs, each frequency has its own gain plus adjustable DB level.

If I'm reading it right, Ricky's point was that they should NOT sound the same at each venue.
That was my point too! Each venue will have its own acoustical challenges or enhancements. I once used my Bose 802s with no subs to do a corporate function at a Restaurant banquet room. The room was mainly mahogany and oak wood from ceiling to floor. It was also built over water so there was natural reverberation. I could not believe the bass that I was getting without subs.

We use a 2/3 octave EQ, compressor/limiter and 2/3-way stereo crossover.

To answer the original posted question, I use very little processing. But what I use I believe makes a noted (and heard) difference. I use a limiter/compresser and a bbe 882 sonic enhancer. Although my EV system sounds great on its own ( very clear, natural sound) I find that these two processers signifacately add crisp, clear highs and lows, and allow me to contour the sound to a rooms acoustical characteristics (I.E. hard walls, low ceilings, heavy carpeted walls, etc.) And if you feel that you do not need any processing for a particular room or situation, you can always turn them off and take them out of the loop. The best of both worlds!

I've got a behringer Eq on the outputs, Feedback destroyer for the wireless set, older vocal processor on the mic effects loop for times when i need verb or chorus. Thinking about adding a comp/limiter for the outputs as well.

I am using a Driverack PX with my JBL EON 515xt's and 518s subs. It just makes setup that much easier. I put the MIC on a stand in the center of the room and in a minute or two I am good to go with my levels. If I am going to be using a MIC infront of the soundstage I will also sometimes go thru the steps to knock down feedback.
