I'm not trying to be sarcastic but it's pretty plain to see you don't have a marketing plan. I'll help you out with one if you want. I don't have the time to go from scratch and do it all and frankly it might be too much to follow all at once but I am willing to work with you in steps and stages. First we can do a 7 day plan and before that is over i'll have a 30 day ready for you. Here's what I need to know before we start do you have a budget for marketing and if so give me a rough idea how much and what do you do to market your business now.

Not much right now. I have free listings to boost up our site to the top and i have a paid listing for Wedplan. That's it. I guess i can spend right now about $300.00. Thanks for your help as you can tell i'm in new territory here. I don't know what else i can tell you right now.
 
Hey! I resemble that remark! We work in several Nebraska schools at an average of about $3500 a shot. hrumphh! lol (how much would that be in DC high dollar shows???)

Val, I know you put on a kick a$$ show (with a trailer truck full of equipment) - so I'm certain that in the DC area, you could get alot more!

Keep your money in your pocket for the time being. A one time injection of $300 would do little or nothing to help you. You need to commit to spending a specific amount every month. Ideally at this point in your business you should be spending about 25% of what you take in on marketing but in reality that doesn't usually happen. Pick an amount you can afford to spend every month....$50, $100, or whatever it may be and stick to it. As time goes on we can figure out what the best way to spend it is.

I'm going to start you off with a 7 day plan. You have to stick to the plan doing half of it won't work. You already have a website so let's focus on that and how to make it easier to find.

1) Decide on a Marketing budget. Pick an amount you can afford and stick to it.

2) Create a Facebook profile if you don't have one then create a business page. As you get friends on Facebook invite them to the page and see if they will share the page with friends.

3) Add your website URL to any signature line in any board or group you belong to. This will help with SEO for your website.

4) Look for any free listings you can get anywhere on the internet. WeDJ, Party Pros, Party Pop, Craigslist, and any others you can find. There is no bad place to advertise when it's free. Local boards are great for this and don't forget to link to your webpage anywhere you can

5) Create an Ebay account and a Youtube account. Link your website on your profile page on both these sites they are both great for SEO

6) Create a list of past corporate clients and clients that have parties quite often. You will need this list in the 30 day plan

7) Work on yourself. Watch the way you dress, the way you speak, everything. Some will argue that this one has nothing to do with marketing but you are selling the blind, selling an image. Keep the image good. Look in to public speaking courses and do some reading. Your public library have all kinds of motivational and sales books

I can't say that I have read this entire thread so I'm just posting based on the thread title alone.

Mix: If you are primarily a wedding jock like myself this time of the year is in the middle of prime wedding dates. However, most book their events a minimum of 3 mos. prior and usually much earlier... the prime months for me are Late May - Early November, with most of the bookings taking place starting usually just after Christmas.... and then a resurgence just after the New Year.... finally tappering off after February... then the inquiries and bookings slow way down.... I'm not worried, between the completed events so far this year and the future gigs already booked I will have about 20 jobs.... to-date.

I will go on to predict at least 5 pop-up bookings like the one I just booked an event for this Friday on Tuesday for top dollar for the event type....

Basically what I'm saying is don't count your chickens as all hatched until you find out how may yet be laid.
 
Ok since I was given the idea of spending $50.00 a month on advertising, what would you suggest for advertising that you feel will work? This stuff is still new to me. Back when I first got started in 81 DJ's didn't have websites nor did they have paid advertising. It was word of mouth. But I certainly do understand you've got to change with the times. That means embracing modern technology.

You are in Sales plain and simple. You are selling both You and a Service. Learning both how to identify and qualify prospects is a plus. I can suggest some books from your Library and videos to watch!

I sent you a pm. I don't know if you got it or not. What i did do was to get free listings on a bunch of sites by going to New Jersey wedding DJ's. That's what i did so far. My email is [email protected]. Send me a message and i'll gladly give you my cell #.

If in 11 days all you could get done was a few free listings that tells me you aren't very committed to this project. all this was going to cost you was time and if you aren't willing to invest that to make your business better why would I invest the time to help with no return.
