I believe it was Firetext Rick was using very similar concept.

Might be a good upsell for a year or two for $20/month it might be worth a try

I have been considering the same thing. They have been sending me emails. My problem is, I feel I would also need to purchase a Totem and hang the flat screen from the Totem in order to do it right. Again more, equipment, and more set up time.

Not quite sure how many brides would buy into it. ...I run about 10% for the Up Lighting add on. If this only ran at 10% I don't see it as being with the time and effort to offer it.

I could just bring a small table, set flatscreen TV on table, and the overall cost would be cheaper for me...but a table takes up more space, and doesn't look Great. Overall tough call, but it's a neat concept.

What I do is home-grown. I use a google voice number to receive texts, then cut-paste them to my display program. It's crude, but it works. I've been down-playing this option for the past couple of years. It adds more logistics hassle than it gets me in sales. The concept is solid though, and it will help show you as different from the other DJs in the area.

One thing to be aware of, it looks like the product shown is hooked up directly to the publicly-shown projector. I can't stress how incredibly STUPID that is. I receive (sometimes very highly) inappropriate texts from guests. You'd be a fool to just let it run to the screen and then try to react. We have to nuke messages on a regular basis and I'd probably say it's on a majority of the events we do. You've been warned.

Why not put a flat screen on a speaker or light stand, it would look a whole lot more professional, and be high enough to be read

I had thought about that...is there some sort of adaptor kit to be able to do that correctly? Or can a store bought swivel set with the backing plate to the TV fit into a stand? That would certainly be a much less expensive option than buying Totem Truss. Using a Speaker or Light Stand I assume you could only go so large on the flat screen TV...Maybe 50 inch, but that should be plenty for showing messages.

...Also, Rick's warning is another hassle to deal with. I doubt brides/grooms care to see Crude messages, or filthy language put up on the screen during the event.

At one wedding I had a text message that read, "Jessica, you look beautiful tonight. Your secret lover."

It happens, a lot.

Hi, I'm one of the founders of the company. We saw there was a discussion going on here. Thank you all for your opinions and feedback.

There seemed to be a little confusion on how our software works. No messages get shown on screen unless you approve them to be shown. We've designed a clever control window that sits unobtrusively on top of whatever DJ software you run that you can use to approve messages. Most of the time you don't look at it. But it'll alert you when you have a message and whenever you have time, you can hit the checkmark or X. If you get 50 messages in a night, it really doesn't take more than 2 minutes total. But if that's still cumbersome, you can also elect to have someone else moderate from another computer. It doesn't even have to be at the event. They can run it from home. JammText is all cloud-synced.

Firetext was a similar concept, but it was significantly more difficult to get started with and more expensive, upwards of $1000. We streamlined and simplified everything so you can literally be up and running in 5 minutes. All you need is a laptop, internet, and screens to show JammText on. And we're offering a free trial, then it's only $19.99/mo.

The one problem I have with large flatscreen TVs is Transport. Cases for TVs are pretty darn expensive. Also, with all the other equipment in a vehicle, where do you put it if you don't have a VAN?

In my Traverse I know I can bring out my 32 inch for a karaoke party. However, a wedding where I am doing 2 set ups and up lighting...how am I transporting a 40+ inch TV along with all the other equipment? I use to have a VAN years ago, but don't any more.

I can see needing at least a 50 inch TV. 55 or 60 would probably be needed for good visibility...or set up a projector and screen for it. I don't see myself attempting to mount a 55 or 60 inch screen to a Speaker Tripod. ...Yeah...that isn't happening. Projector and Screen is probably the best solution for this option.

Mount only holds a tiny 20 inch screen and stand doesn't go high enough at 6 feet. Gotta get the screen up HIGH! :D
Not going to get a tripod mount to handle much higher than that without ballasting the legs.

I had planned to do EXACTLY the same as you... Google Voice number, cut and paste from text messages, etcetera. I have a computer mounted in my rack dedicated to video and a short-throw projector, which I originally planned to use to project music visualizations and photo slideshows on a screen behind my booth. Never bought the screen. I find I'm just WAY too busy to mess with video... my head might explode if I had to do video and music at the same time.[emoji1] Maybe someday, if it gets to the point where DJing is more automatic for me, but I'm not there yet. I did hook up to the venue's video system for a couple of corporate events to run PowerPoint shows, but the client was actually running it (changing slides and talking) not me.

I never even thought about someone sending inappropriate texts. That's a great heads-up; thanks![emoji4] But one other problem you run into when you receive and display photos from text or email is the size can vary significantly. I have a resizing application I use to resize photos, so I can change them to a uniform size before displaying them. If you're running a slideshow that runs through photos automatically, you don't want some teeny-tiny photo to follow some giant photo.

Thanks for coming to our forum. Appreciate the insight. While it's not something I see myself using (I do mostly weddings), I always like to see people making new technology for the DJ business. I wish you luck!

.

From my perspective, adding more logistic hassles that doesn't increase sales substantially doesn't seem like a solid idea.
