Looking to getting a new camera for my birthday present.

I tried to ask him what lens he currently has before giving recommendations but he didn't answer.
I wrote him off a while back but thought I would try one more time to help.......stupid me!
Canon EF 50mm 1.1.8 ll. That's what it says on the lens. That's the extra one. The one on the camera is Canon EF-S 18-55.

Well that's more than sufficient for low light shooting but as Taso mentioned, the brighter the lens, the less depth of field you have to play with before things start being noticeably out of focus. Assuming the lens is not the issue, what program mode are you generally shooting in?

Mix, I've said it before, I would get a f/1.8 50mm and maybe a f/1.8 85mm lens, both are excellent for indoor work. The 50mm you can get for around $100, the 85mm, better for portraits, is about $350. The 50mm should be a no-brainer based on its cost and usefulness.

You guys have seen his pictures, right?

Yes they have. You've also seen me post how people think I'm a photographer because of the camera I have. LOL.

Wow... you actually answered a question. Cool! So if you're NOT a photographer, why buy a new lens or flash? When I hold a spatula, people might think I'm a chef but that certainly doesn't make me want to buy a new set of cookware.

Yes .. Lenses won't help with composition, subject or framing ... BUT .. many of the shots are blurry (even with autofocus on) since the stock lens doesn't open wide enough for an appropriate shutter speed. The $100 50mm lens is almost 8 times faster than the 18-50 (or whatever he has) and will allow significantly faster shutter speeds so maybe they get "technically" better.

Apparantly that 50mm lens IS the one he has, or so he claims now

OK then Mix .. put the "extra" lens on the camera, and use that one. It is a better overall lens, since it is faster AND optically cleaner than the low end zooms. You'll have to do the old move closer/farther thing to get people to fit, but you'll tend to get better images .. well, image that look sharper .. you still need to take some photography lessons.

It is not a claim. It's a fact. I had to look on the lens shell to see what they are. I decided to just get a better flash because the one I have doesn't give enough light when shooting video. I will put the one I have online for sell.

The "Flash" isn't on when you shoot video.

If you want a light for video, you need something closer to this: Aputure Amaran AL-H198 On-Camera LED Light H198 B&H Photo Video

That type of light will stay on so you can get the video, versus just flashing for a photo.

Wait... so you're saying you have A FLASH AND UPGRADED LENS... yet the pictures you posted before are the results? You don't need an investment on equipment... you need an investment on knowledge.

FYI here is a video with a t3i 50mm lens:

And a photo from 2013 when we were still familiarizing ourselves with its capabilities:

I said I was looking to upgrade before getting talked off the roof making the jump. I mentioned what I have right now.

The fact that you didn't even know what lens' you had without looking at them shows just how little you know or more importantly how little you care to know about photography and the tools you are using.

Again just one more reason not to help an idiot who has no interest in helping himself.
Now I remember why I stopped trying to help you a while back. I won't make that mistake a third time.

As they say on the Shark Tank and the Dragon's Den, "I'm out"!!!

Great, and I just showed you what your camera is capable of with the EXACT camera and lens combination you have NOW. Once you can do that, then look for better quality.
