Ho Ho Ho Merry Xmas! I apologize for getting in the debate as forum Staff I will attempt to do my job and not let myself give opinion on debated topics.

I'm in a situation at my elementary school where one of our student sponsors, in an effort to raise money, is offering to show Transformers to the kids.

Forget the legalities of showing the movie in the first place and consider this:

Its rated PG-13
My school is K - 5.
The movie will be shown after regular school hours. Parents need not attend with kids under 13. Just sign the form. And I doubt many will care about signing it and just go ahead and send there kid. We serve 85% free and reduced lunches to give you an idea about demographics.

So far, I'm the only one with enough balls to speak up. This sponsor is pretty intimidating to the other teachers. He also has our principals blessing. He could give a rats a$$ about what BOE thinks too. (In some ways I don't blame them because there is history about how much they have sucked in the past, but thats not the point here.)

Kids know lyrics. They sing them, they know what it means. When you hear the word Hoe bleeped out on a video, but the guy is pointing to a near naked girl on the screen, they know then visually what a hoe must be.

However, at a dance, the kids are more interested in the dance when there is no video.

The Transformers movie is sexy and violent and has no business at a school. Its visually unlike anything I've seen played at school.
Hollywood needs to stop re-inventing cartoons and super heroes into PG-13 movies.
I also feel our sponsor should take the high road even though he knows it will be successful and not show it.

The sponsor is a great fundraiser, but he's caving to "sex sells" and "it it bleeds it leads" when it comes to making a buck.

I'm on the fence about what gets played out of my system. But in my school, I really feel nothing more than G or PG at the very most should be played.

I agree with all the good points being made on here. Keep the hope alive.

Crank that is popular to the kids because of the dance thats attached to this song. Kids are not paying any attention to the lyrics. The same thing applies to reggae music. Do you really think anyone understands what some of the artist are saying in Reggae? Trust me! It's worse than Soulja Boy.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

STOP IT!
YOU'RE CRACKIN ME UP HERE!

Kids ARE asking for it because OF the lyrics dude!

It's good to be bad!
We all want to be rebels!
Let's see what we can sneak past the DJ!

What rock you crawl out from under....:sqlaugh:

Of course we can't....not the the point of my post though. A lot of illegal things like this go unchecked....my point was the audacity to show it in the first place....

Just curious ...that's all...I have no issues with that.....But i agree....Transformers is a might intense for 8 or 9 year olds......

But then again, they just love it for the dance.................

If I am under a rock, then you must be smoking a rock. It's a dance!!! DANCE!!! Get it.. I am talking about 13 and under in age. Girls and Boys ask for this song to do the dance. They will hear the words played in the song, but they have no clue what some of this means.

Some know it word for word, most mumble along.
Some of them never hear the edited versions, some never hear the unedited versions.

Most like to dance a popular dance because it's popular for popularity's sake and the popular kids are doing it. "Walk It Out" is the new "Twist"

The line between kids wanting to be bad, good, fun, or indescent is one that can't be drawn easily from any music from any age. Even Opera's in the 1700's and 1800's sparked riots and deaths for their indecency. Then the 1920's....then Chuck Berry and his Ding-a-ling......and God forbid Disco.

Give it a rest.

Do what you feel is ok to make a buck and go with it.

JT - this is perhaps society is the toilet is is today.....Everyone just wants to slough it off...not my problem.....

That being said, we've actually had 5 decently civil pages of discussions, 445 views on a DJ related topic......

Should we pass out cigars?

Hooray Steve we survived. Id rather just give ya a hug. IF onlyI could find my super soaker..................LOL

Just the response that crystallizes why society is in the toilet....No one gives a rats ass anymore ...No one wants to bother teaching kids values and respect...let TV, crappy music and Grand Theft Auto teach them values......can't even spell (crusade)

Steve I cant say I disagree with you on your stance the lyrics are horrible but in the end it's my job to teach my kids morals, values, and respect not teach everyone elses kids that. I personally dont usually play for that age group one of my DJs does and honestly before this thread I had heard soulja boy but I didn't know the lyrics

Now not having much experience with this particular song I will use Shake That as an example. Pretty much the same sentiment and in the year and a half it's been out I dont ever recall a guy requesting it it's always been females

What does this tell you?

JTV - Honestly this is what a board is about - disagreeing, yet remaining civil.

Jeff - I hear you.......here's what I posted over on DJ Chat (I'm multi-debating today)

No Dave, you're a father that realizes that these lyrics are totally inappropriate for middle school and while maybe some parents don't give a rats ass, you do..you'll set the right example...you'll show the parents/advisors why you won't play the song, just like you won't play Mony Mony...they'll thank you for enlightening them.

No you won't fix the problem.....but in your heart you'll know you did the right thing......

How can you argue with this logic?

Jeff - While i can't teach everyone's kids, one can lead by example....we do that all the time.....

I don't know about you, but I was a pretty astute kid by the time I was 13. I knew exactly what they were saying in songs like "Walk on the Wild Side", "Go All the Way", "Brother Louie", "My Ding-a-ling", and "Hello, It's Me". Well all right. The last two didn't take any thought, but you get my drift.

The music these days is just a lot easier to figure out, and don't think the kids don't know it.

Let me clarify....
Do what YOU feel is ok to make a buck and go with it.

I don't play songs at events just because I know I can. I try to rest on my laurels about half the time. All edits and I watch for content too....

I'll play cupid shuffle way after the soulja craze has passed. I'll help it pass actually.....

JT - I wasn't jabbing at you specifically, moreso at today's prevalent attitude..there are plenty who simply abdicate responsibility....We wonder why many of today's youth have no respect....People standing up and leading by example will make a difference....it may be miniscule, but it is a difference nonetheless.

No jab taken brutha
I'm totally with you

Any of you that don't want to play the kids favorite song that some DJ's HAVE to play multiple times because of demand.........so be it.

Just don't come back on this forum complaining that...."The kids said i SUCKED":sqlaugh:

I'm going to work on my plan of eliminating morals all together..muahhahaha

...I'll play cupid shuffle way after the soulja craze has passed. I'll help it pass actually.....
With the Cupid Shuffle, ya don't get dirty looks from the over 30-ish. :D

The soulja stuff is just more brainless rap. I will be glad when the rap nonsense has finally passed altogether.

Hey... maybe we can dig out our old copies of Hansen's Mm Bop, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls and reminisc about how irritating the stuff was when we played it. ;)

why dig out the old spice when you can have em brand new and kicking off their world tour kicking off in Vancouver December Second.
