    OT: DirecTV - GRRRRR

Just got rid of DirectTV and went back to cable. ****canned my Verizon DSL for cable internet. 15X the speed up and down on the 'net, full boat TV with all the pay channels. $48/month less than we were paying before. We had finished out our contract with the dish folks, bye-bye! Paul

What computerized light controller would you recommend?

Brendan nailed it above. LOL Mix, you have enough trouble figuring out how to get gigs, and now you are going to learn DMX. Advice: Solve one problem at a time. Get a simple light tree and a Copilot III to run the lights. Now you can chase and trig to music without much thought, and your...

    Comparable Subs to KW181

We have an EZ-UP shelter. This is a good investment for outdoor gigs, not only will it provide shade and rain protection, ours is large enough where we can put our speakers under it as well. As to not running the QSC's outside, we have played them outside at 90 degrees+ and not had a problem...

    Comparable Subs to KW181

Houston's words are valid. We have run the QSC actives outside in broad daylight without a problem, as well as the JBL actives. Take into consideration your location. I'm in New England, it gets hot here however it's surely different than an outdoor gig would be in SoCal or Tucson/Phoenix. Paul

    Comparable Subs to KW181

Good for you! I've heard good things about the EV's. LOL, I'm a JBL fan....been working with their passives for a long time now and brand loyalty dies hard for me....they perform well time after time, and also pass the test of time. I have 2 different pair of SRX 3 ways that are almost 30 years...

    Comparable Subs to KW181

I also have sipped the QSC kool-aid. I have a pair of each of the tops in the HPRi series, and a pair of HPR181i subs. Build quality and sound are fantastic. I cannot think that you would be unhappy with the QSC 18 subs you are considering. These and a pair of JBL Eon 315 and a JBL EON 518 sub...

please help me hook my gear up

I started out playing for my friends, at my home. Before I EVER started looking for paid work I did my own research and had purchased quality JBL's, 2 Crown amps to power them, a good board and a pair if Technics SL1200 tables. This in the days LONG before the internet was reality and easy info...

please help me hook my gear up

I'll say this...to survive as a DJ, you'll deal with drunks, idiotic clubgoers, people who will spill drinks in your equipment and more. I see you did not like what I had to say, however it is the plain truth. I'll offer you a valuable piece of advice: Grow a thick skin now. If you cannot...

please help me hook my gear up

Not to berate you, however put the shoe on the other foot. when I read your post I see a new guy, that's cool, however I also see something that tears down what took me 25 years to build. Next it's Craigslist "new DJ", will play for $100. This isn't good for me or you however I make a...

New Pioneer Controller with real CDJ type platter....

It'll be $1500 street price. For Serato only. Apparently this controller has no "split cue" :-( They are bringing out new software. "Serato DJ" just for this controller, and some others such as my NS7FX. My thoughts are the software fits somewhere between Serato Scratch Live and ITCH in the...

Bose Bows L1 Model 1S Line Array

So then $4K for two with 2 bass bins... I'll be stickin' to my tried and true JBLS and QSC's. I can do as few as 30 and as many as 1000 depending on what I toss in the van. I am a high-end audiophile at home, and share the view of most audiophiles regarding Bose, though I do own a pair of 802's...

Anybody have video of a colorstrip in action with dancers in the video?

Every time I use 'em the clients love them. This client wanted as much light as I could throw directly on the dancefloor. These can be angled any way you like......toward the ceiling, etc. I'd buy them again in a NY minute. Paul

Anybody have video of a colorstrip in action with dancers in the video?

Not a video, however this shows ya what a row of four Colorstrips can do, and how bright they are. These can be programmed many ways. I love 'em. Paul

My partner is giving me a headache!

I DJ because I love music. I also DJ because I like to make money. Mix, it seems your money is going the wrong way here. I would NEVER pay one red cent to play. I have and will continue to do some charity work for a good discount, however it is a business. You cannot last long in business with...

    How many songs?

I'd be the first to tell ya I have no need of 65K in tunes at any gig, I'd say only about 40% is playable for most of the stuff I do, however we do a lot of outdoor cookouts and jams in the summer...plus I have a barn gig 4-5 times a year for a bunch of old hippies.....that's when the spread...

$600 for a pair of Martin Acrobats?

LOL find a nice used Wizard Extreme and watch out! A** kicking light!. I have one, and 4 MX-4 moving mirrors, and an EFX800. Now I put 5 colorstrips on top of my truss and DMX it all with a Leviton MLC 128R controller. This kicks butt however the upcharge is $500. It'll sell usually 3-4 times a...

What do you like and dislike about DJing?

When I meet with clients, especially for weddings. I advise that the blue hairs if their tables are near my setup WILL ask to turn it down...usually to the point where no one else can hear.......so I tell them if at all possible if the seating is fixed that the blue-hairs tables should be as far...

    Best DJ Speaker System

LOL. I have a boatload of SRX speakers from 2 way tops to three and four way tops, and single and dual 18" subs. Lately I've been doing most of my weddings old-scholl passive with a pair of SR-X4718 single 18's and a pair of SRX 715 tops. I drive the subs with a Crown I-Tech 8000, and the tops...
