Now it works, now it doesn't. DMX! ARGH! Help.

Hiya Bobcat. I went on a spiritual journey searching for the meaning of life with some old guy on a mountain top in the Himalayas... that's my story and I'm sticking to it because it couldn't be I just got lazy and didn't get on the forums for a while. This whole Sushi thing frustrated the...

Now it works, now it doesn't. DMX! ARGH! Help.

I do have actual DMX cords. I don't have a terminator because I understand that is only needed on longer runs. I have a 15' DMX cord to from the Sushi to the Gigbar and another 1' to the Par.

Now it works, now it doesn't. DMX! ARGH! Help.

I have a Chauvet Gigbar2 with an ADJ Dotz Par attached to the stand. I use it with a Sushi DS and use ESA2 on a laptop to control them. I don't know much about DMX but was able to muddle my way through setting it up until it worked fairly well. Simple and effective. Then suddenly on one of...

DMX for one light only. Which program?

    It's a GIGBAR, not a ColorBar. It's got 2 pars, 2 derbys, 4 strobes, and a RG laser.

DMX for one light only. Which program?

From what I can see it looks like ShowXpress is a more powerful software than most of the others. The lack of support is highly frustrating. This is my quandary. I know that ShowXpress can layer (I think that is the correct term) different scenes over each other to easily make much more...

DMX for one light only. Which program?

I'll check it out right now. Thanks. OK. Just checked it out. For $39 I'm willing to give it a try. If it doesn't work I'm not out much.

DMX for one light only. Which program?

I would love to use ShowXpress since I already have the Xpress 512 but like I said, the tutorial is outdated and difficult to follow and the user manual is a joke. I can tell it is a pretty good platform. I just wish it was supported as well.

DMX for one light only. Which program?

I use only one light when I do weddings. The Chauvet Gigbar IRC. The big drawback with that light is there is no real good sound active program for slow songs. I want to use DMX to fix that. Because I am NOT getting into DMX hard and heavy I need a program that will do what I need but not be...

Your main DJ software likes and dislikes

I use Ots as well but only use 1.85. I purchased 1.9 but went back to 1.85. 1.85 will work on Windows 10 but you need to uninstall it, install an older version of Windows, install Ots then install Windows 10 again. That is what I did and it is working fine. I agree with your assessment about...

    The problem with country music...

I actually like country music. I just don't listen to it as much as I should because I've too busy listening to the pop and hip-hop stations in my area trying to keep abreast to what the kids are listening to these days. I have a fair amount of clients that request some country music during...

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

Fair enough. If what you do works for you, awesome. What I do works for me. Fantastic. We are different and we both succeed. It's a win for both of us.

    Pricing sweet spot

I would like to see a thread about what you do to clinch the deal. Do you throw in something like a photo book, etc. Good post.

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

FYI, the 7 page wedding worksheet is not as daunting as it sounds. Much of it is suggestions and cautions, etc. to help them in their planning and to educate them on things that will make my life a lot easier like 'putting no tables between the speakers and the dance floor so the ear drums of...

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

I respectfully disagree. Many many times I have had clients (brides and mothers mostly) express a fair amount of bewilderment about what they should do next, what works, what doesn't, etc. Many of the items I bring up in my 7 page wedding worksheet and my quote they had not considered before...

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

I believe it is a difference in opinion. I have been a successful profession full commission salesman for man years. Before any of us actually do a gig, it's all salesmanship. And some of us are better at it than others. I will concede that there are vastly different styles of salesmanship...

    Pricing sweet spot

I don't think so. I just went and checked and couldn't find them. I get them emailed to me once a week. They just started doing it a few months ago. It's helpful. If you don't get them I would call customer support and and ask.

    Pricing sweet spot

Interesting. Maybe I'll try that. The leads are cheap enough that it won't hurt to try it for a while. I do get referrals but not enough yet. I am sure that is one thing I should probably work on.

    Backup gear, your opinion please

I don't know much about the different models of speakers, at least not enough to make educated comparisons. I have 2 Yamaha DXS 12 subs with 2 Yamaha DXR 10 tops for weddings. More than enough for a wedding. Once I had the sub and satellite on the right side stop working (I can't remember the...

Long Day. Did a Double today

I just booked my first double ever and I am more than a little nervous. I have a repeat client, a church that hires me once a year to play music for a community fair they do each year. It's and easy and fun gig that is finished by 2:00pm but it doesn't pay a lot. Then I has a wedding client...

    Pricing sweet spot

At the risk of sounding redundant I would like to address pricing again. Is there a 'sweet spot' for pricing with DJ gigs? When I was in sales (home improvements) I would usually tell the client it was not wise to go with the most expensive bid or the cheapest bid. The cheapest bid's work...

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

By the way, here's an update. Because of the responses in this forum I have made the attempt at raising my rates over the last 6 weeks with some success. Yesterday I just booked my most expensive wedding ever but still not where I want to be. I am very grateful for everyone's (even...

Weddings What makes a $1500 wedding DJ worth his price?

I don't think I could disagree more with Proformance's responses. I have been in sales almost my entire life and I've learned to sell the sizzle and not the steak. Steak is a piece of dead meat which is not appealing. The sizzle is the anticipation in one's mind of a wonderful experience...

I wish I had worn ear protection earlier

I started wearing ear protection at my gigs a few years ago and even started wearing it when mowing or doing other loud things. About 6 months ago my wife and I were eating at a restaurant and she commented about the song playing softly in the background. I couldn't hear it. Since then I've...
