Yeah I'll just call my friend and tell him I'm not a "competent jock" and don't have "the skill set to successfully accomplish the task". Geeez

Thank you to those that gave me some good suggestions.

This gig btw is in Greensboro NC, 4 and half hours from my home in Knoxville TN. I arrived a few hours ago and just went though sound check with no problems. The system had to be set up a day early due to fact they needed the ballroom for other functions all day tomorrow up until show time. Its a two hour dance and I'm told there should be 2000-3000 in attendance.
I just want to know what gear is being used for a crowd that is that large. Please post later what you used and how did it sound.

Not sure if you will get this, but that is a crapload of kids and as stupid as it might be, I would still put a request list out.

after a few pages see what is being written down and try and find them. It will be hard because not knowing the music and how the song "goes" is a bummer. But if they are in your computer with BPM's at least it will give you a starting point.

Good luck, try and have fun.

Thanks Chuck, I'll have an assistant who will handle the requests.

Mix, I'll post some pics later just for you.

Currently I'm 22 floors up in my hotel room doing a little music research.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Thanks. I was just wondering for that big of a crowd what would be used. That I think is a good question for all here as I'm not sure what gear would work for such a large crowd. All I know is what I have to work with wouldn't be good enough for such a big crowd.

My comments/responses are based on, specifically...

..and not conjecture or supposition or misplaced deference.

Depends on the relationship but mostly, I absolutely would help. However, my help would not include agreeing to provide a service I am not skilled or experienced enough to provide. I would first offer to help him find a better option.

In a complete emergency, I would do whatever my friend asked but I do not believe that is what we have here.

Eg., "My daughter's quinceanera is in a week and the DJ cancelled," said my friend.

To which I reply, "Let me help you find a quinceanera DJ that can enhance your daughter's celebration and not just me as a live jukebox. I belong to a few trade associations and can make some calls while you scour the www for a replacement and make some calls. If you find an available, and qualified performer, call me and I will see if any of my contacts know of him/her."

If this is an emergency circumstance, so be it, my comments would not be applicable...I do not believe that is what we have here.

You may be right, however considering this is a teen event, and their music is hot for about 10 minutes, it doesn't hurt to put feelers out. Also considering how large this event is .. and less than a week out, I would much rather bring in someone I know than find someone I don't.

I kinda over looked this. Now that I read this Thur it sounds strange to me, first you say its 41/2 hours away and its a 2 hour dance Christ its gonna take a hour to get them in and a hour to get them out. You better have some BIG BIG guns for this

You need 25 posts to see certain forums I believe that is one of them. At this moment you have 24 make a post and you should be in. Any problems let me know
Why would I not have permission to view gig logs?

What service is he not skilled to provide? He's a professional DJ/MC. He's not experienced with these type of events but he has the fundamentals of the job there's no good reason he can't learn the music if he were to choose to and apparently he chose to. It's a two hour event you don't need to be a specialist to very successfully pull it off

I was hoping someone would actually post a few song titles. My last DJ gig was in October and I have a private party in a couple of weeks. I've listened to some the current songs and hardly any sound like good dance music!

I like that "Ex's and Ohs" song but that doesn't mean the tweens will like it.

I don't have the gear to accommodate that large of a crowd or venue. Not sure I want to either... and I CERTAINLY don't want to do a gig for 2000-3000 young teens!!![emoji1] YIKES!!![emoji1]

Why????
You'll never do a gig like this
Who said I wanted to do a gig that big or that type? Like I said I already know what I won't cut it for a gig that big. I would need to rent the gear needed to do a gig this big. I wouldn't know what to charge for agig this size. I was just curious as to what others would bring that would do well for a gig like this.

If I used all I have it would be like bringing a knife to a gun fight. What I have is awesome but not good enough for a job this big.

If you were to do a job this big, you would probably need help for a gig this size to setup for a gig this big and would not have the right music for a gig this size or know the music for a gig this big which would leave the kids at a gig this big wondering why you were playing at a gig this size.

:)

I would have the guy that works with me doing certain gigs play the music. I would be the driver to and from the gig with the gear. More than likely it would require renting a big enough of a truck to haul the gear. I doubt my van would be big enough.

I was in Musically Yours and saw a RCF speaker that was through the ROOF. The cost was 3k just for 1 speaker. It was a super big powered speaker. The way it looked I believe 4 of those along with some subs would handle this gig without any problems. I never saw that speaker again. I wished I knew the model number. I just want to hear it. I bet the sound is dynamite.

The guy that works with you doing certain gigs may not have done a gig this big and may not have the music for a gig this size regardless if you were the driver to and from a gig this big with the gear for a gig this size. You're right, it may require you to rent a truck for a gig this size with gear for a gig this big.

Considering a gig this size, I don't know if 4 super big powered RCF's that are through the ROOF would be enough gear for a gig this big without any problems at a gig this size. Add some subs for a gig this size and it still may not be enough for a gig this big.
