In this case, I think the sit/stand thing can be best chocked up to a lack of confidence.
I'm sure he will gain that confidence once he gets a few gigs under his belt.

You got that right. I notice the same thing happens at mitzvahs and middle school dances. Seems by the time they reach 16 the integration has been made complete.
