Thanks Steve.

I heard the QSC was coming out with the K2 series.
I was hoping for and KW151!!!!
I would like to see that as well. This one is pretty heavy at 90#. I think it's more of a niche product for live sound to keep the bass off the stage or away from the musicians.

QSC did also announce additions to their E series of passive speakers.

A new dual 18" subwoofer and a dual 15" 2-way top with 1.4" compression driver.

Steve,

Any possible word on whether QSC plans to do anything with their KSeries Powered Speakers? They have been out in the market for quite a few years and really had become the benchmark for high quality, high output powered speakers and at a lighter weight.
That being said, they are getting to be a 'little' dated and just wondered if anyone may know what their plans may be and if this is the season to expect anything from them?
I still have a pair of K-10's that I have been using for about seven years and they are unbelievably nice speakers! I have used them stand alone in the past with some very small venues and light crowd ( under 75 guests ) and they can do the job even without subs.
I am hoping they plan to update them this year?

Thanks

I talked to one of the reps at the DJExpo in August 2015. At that time he was saying there was going to be a K2 line and models added to the KW line. Said there was going to be another new line as well. 2016 saw the intro of the E series, but those are passive, not active. This new sub is the only new active piece I've seen since, so I have no idea.

I would think the K is ready for a change .. the KW is newer, but a 15" sub would be awesome .. maybe something will be announced at NAMM in 2 weeks.

Thanks Steve.... I could see them coming out with a line array system and that might really be sweet! I also run the EVOX 8 system and love it, but might be nice to see what QSC may offer in this same category.

Assume you mean a stick type array, as QSC already makes line arrays, including the smaller KLA Array .. An EVOX or Bose styled setup would be cool.

Correct, I meant something like the EVOX system, but maybe with a few more bells and whistles. The EVOX is great, but has a few limitations.

DJ City did a first look at the SC5000 Prime player, and it looks really sweet:

I'm looking forward to a full review.

I'm also really impressed with the look of the X1800 mixer and looking forward to learning more about the FX unit that is built in.

The turntable looks awesome too - but that is such an uphill battle. Despite Technics completely crapping on the DJ market... anyone with a set of 1200s can keep them alive forever at very low cost. I'd love to have a new pair, but I can't justify spending the money when I think my Techs will run forever.

I also heard from my supplier that QSC will be coming out with the K2 series soon, but he could not tell me anymore about them.

Just to add, I do some other work for a local church that is building a new sanctuary and the the sound is all QSC line array.

This church spent over a million just on sound. It is a very large church it will seat 2000.

A million dollars on sound at a venue that hosts 2,000? ...I find that hard to believe.

Not everyone buys American Audio or Alto gear. :)

A decent line array system will run $5K-7K+ per element .. some stacks having 12-15 elements, so left/right hangs might run $100K a piece, plus another $40K for center, left and right outfills .. add delay stacks and such and you can spend $450K easily .. just on the speakers. Front of house digital boards run $100K .. another $50K for a monitor board, mics, iems ...yada yada .. very easy to get to $1M for a performance venue .. and mega churches are definitely performance venues.

I know it is possible to spend 1 million on sound for a venue. However, for a church that seats 2,000? When the new Horseshoe Casino opened up in Baltimore City, I was told they had about $100,000 invested in their sound AND lighting where the stage is. They were using JBL VRX, and they had a lot of different lighting hung up. That system got super loud if needed. ...I think that 100K also included the TV panels running up and down the wall behind the stage. Not sure though.

A million...I would think that is something more for a large concert venue.

$100K is nothing .. many night clubs do more than that for 400 people. And for churches, you also need to blend the gear into the building .. and that usually means smaller gear, which usually means you need higher performance gear to compensate. In churches you'll see a lot of Martin Audio, Meyer Sound, etc. because they will custom paint as necessary and they have some of the best performing gear for the physical size .. and they cost more.

Most large churches are on par with good size concert venues.

The Horseshoe Casino here spent over 500K almost 18 years ago.

This includes everything new from speakers to monitors, mixer , mic's, video (which is a screen about 40 foot wide) to all the labor to install all.

When I was in there this week I made a quick run thru the Sanctuary, I saw no less that 40 cabinets hanging, and they were not finished in that room and they also have a childern's wing with its own stage and sound system.

This church will be bring in large acts.

Some sound boards have a cost of $100,000. If the Horseshoe only has $100,000 in audio, and lighting, then they don't have much. I've worked in clubs that have had way over $100k in sound and lighting gear. Adds up quick when you have boxes that cost 5k-8k each, and amps and processing gear that can cost 3k-5k each. I think that you are probably missing some numbers in the price you think they have at the horseshoe. And don't forget that the install labor is not cheap.

Back to the gear that was posted... it looks like that X1800 has FX on buttons... that is SUCH a good idea. On the Pioneer 800 and 900 mixers that are really popular in clubs there is a knob to assign the FX usage. I believe the options are per channel, A/B (crossfader left or right essentially), or master. Having a quick visual aid to know where I left the FX assigned would be a big improvement in that department.

I hope the build quality is as strong as Denon used to be. If built it like a tank, I think they've got a real winner here. The tough thing is just getting people to convert and leave their brand behind. Because Denon is definitely in an uphill battle there.

This is all linked to the Rane/Pioneer/Rekordbox fiasco. Apparently, Rekordbox DJ is stumbling a bit in the marketplace, and it looks like Denon is looking to fill an (expensive) Serato DJ hardware void.

I can believe it considering the church can hold 2,000. Also remember that church and state are separate. They don't pay taxes. A church like that needs the right sound and shouldn't half step on the sound installed in the church.
