Weddings Setting Tone during Cocktail & Dinner Hours

I had the opposite reaction to Scottish bagpipe music recently. It was planned that a friend of the groom would give a Scottish dance lesson to a Scottish bagpipe song. He took so long go over the steps that other guests started heading for the door. It really put a damper on the party and the night ended early.

Lesson learned--don't delay in getting to the good part of the bagpipe song! I'll try and find the CD and give you the title. Might even be able to put the song on here...I'm not that techy, however.

Hey SoCalHugh-- As mentioned earlier in the thread, the big band album is by Paul Anka ("Rock Swings"). Pat Boone did something similar (but different) with his heavy metal meets orchestration/big band album "In a Metal Mood." The rest is a mix of different (mostly European) artists doing what the crazy kids call "chillout" music (which, at least in these arrangements, are basically lounge/jazz versions, but often times "chillout" is sort of synonymous with "smooth jazz" as well); I don't have the list here with me, but Google "chillout," and you'll probably get close...

My standard fare unless pre-scripted by the B&G is a mix of up-tempo easy listening (various from older to newer eras) for cocktail hour. I then go to Easy Jazz or Rat Pack or vitamin string quartet style music or even more frequently lower tempo contemporary easy listening for the dinner portion of the evening . After first dance and parent dances I let er' rip! I am finding quite frequently these days that the more hip B&G's are forgoing all the standard trappings of cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss etc just because it seriously hampers the party mood that gets rolling and the need to conform - others just front end load all that nausea and get er done in one fowl swoop so they can let loose and forgo all the scripted stuff we have all come to know and love - not!:djsmug:

I'm finding this is the case, too! I will remind them, however, incase they just happen to get busy and caught up in everything else that's going on! But, I've had a lot of younger couples who really just want to dance and party!
