Alright, so I've got to DJ a 50th Anniversary tonight, and I've been preparing for about 2 weeks on the music. I've got box sets for the 60s through the 80s, and used the itunes Essentials list "Fabulous 50's" to get about 25 of the biggest hits from the 50s. Are there any specific songs that you wouldn't do this type of event without?

These aren't '50s but I'd not do an anniversary without them: I'd Choose You Again by the Forrester Sisters and Look At Us by Vince Gill.

Buddy Holly - Peggy Sue
Crest - 16 Candles
Danny and the Juniors - At The Hop
Bobby Day - Rockin' Robin
Danleers - One Summer Night
Chubby Checker - The Twist
Impalas - Sorry
Beach Boys - Barbara Ann
Duprees - You Belong To Me
Righteous Bros. - Unchained Melody

Throw in some Tony Bennett and Bobby Vinton.
Good Luck, should be a great night.

Thanks Steve, and thanks everyone for their input. I'll do my best to post a playlist, but I still like the feel of running from CDs so that will be my primary means tonight. I'll be sure to take pictures and videos though!

I agree with Ronnie Milsap's Lost In The Fifties. Although it wasn't recorded in the fifities, it makes a great theme song for a fifties night or sock hop. Open or close with it. Anything oldies should include this song.

Frank Sinatra:
You Make Me Feel So Young
My Way
All Of Me
Young At Heart
It Was A Very Good Year
Love And Marriage
Lady Is A Tramp
Fly Me To The Moon
New York New York

Dean Marin:
Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime
Ain't That A Kick In The head
You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You]
It Had To Be You

Louis Armstrong:
Wonderful World
A Kiss To Build A Dream On

Bob Hope:
Thanks For The Memory

Remember, 50th Anniversary couples grew up during the war (WWII). The big bands, and the crooners and vocalists were the things that dancehalls and radio played. Perry Como, Andrews Sisters, Crosby, Sinatra, Hope, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Gayle Storm, Platters, Mills Brothers.

I hope that it went well for you Brian.

Ah so I never reported back, but it went great! I appreciate all the help you guys gave! For the first 1.5-2 hours It was strictly low, jazz background music. During this time I enjoyed the free food, and had a few good conversations with guests, most were impressed by what I was doing at my age. :sqwink: After dinner, they cleared the tables for dancing. I fired up the Vue 3, and turned up the sound and immediately had them on the dance floor with stuff like Jive Bunny mixes, In the Mood, My Girl, Busta Move, Play that Funky Music. There was a good number of kids present so I threw in the cha cha slide, and it was a big hit also. I had 3-4 slow dances, the most popular was "Lost in the Fifties". Anyway, I forgot my camera (again!) but got a few system shots with my cell phone.
