Who has a wedding AND clothes the guests?

However, before the ceremony he said: "Sorry to disappoint, but the wardrobe we're giving guests is essentially modern. No swords or chain mail. This is not a 'theme' wedding."

You think there's any chance in hades that he let the DJ build the playlist?

He may have paid someone to go to specialty DJ school to play as he would too.

Certain people should be shot -- I think 9 million on a wedding would qualify them for that honor...

I think it's great that that rich people spend money like this. It means work for a lot of people.

it makes more sense than people without any savings to borrow $30k to pay for a wedding they can't afford.

There you go again. I see you don't get it. They have money to burn. In other words they don't have to worry how they are going to eat tonight or pay any other bills. Now tell the truth. You wish that was you doing that wedding. I know damn well I wish it was me! Hell a wedding where they are spending that much I wouldn't know what to quote them. 10k might not get us the job for being too cheap.:p

People that spend that kind of money don't hire DJs -- heck, they can get the Rolling Stones if they want.

It's a frivolous waste of money, to spend that much on something that probably won't last. If they cut it down to under a million, they could use the rest to feed homeless people for a few weeks, bail out a bunch of mortgages, etc...

How do you know it won't last? I don't know anyone who gets married going in says to themselves it won't last very long. To them it's not a waste. The thing is you and I couldn't afford to do that and that is why we feel it to be a waste. Hell if I had that kind of money I would open my own club somewhere. Actually there was a place open a few years ago that closed down due to this idiot manager making a big mistake.

He tried to turn it into a club thing with a DJ playing there and it was too cheap to come in when it was a club night thing. Which in return had bad element coming to the place. So someone got shot outside I was told. It was in Union, NJ. The building is up for sell for over 1M. If I had the money I would gut the whole place out and have my friend who's party I went to put in a serious system! Remodel the whole inside including the bathrooms and kitchen area. Putting in several flat screen TV's. That's just a dream of mine. I would offer the managers job to my friend to see if he would do it or not. If not him I have another friend I would offer the job to.

Even though it's gone down slightly, you still roughly have about a 50% chance that your marriage will end in divorce.

The reason I hear most in why it's a bit lower, is because of the recession -- people can't afford to live by themselves. So even while they technically still live in the same home, they lead separate lives.

So, if your odds are even, then it makes no sense to get married -- just shack up.

I could not disagree more. It's called capitalism. The thing that allows you and me to operate businesses the way we like, and spend money the way we like. You like to buy beer with your money, this guy likes to throw parties.

The difference is his way is supporting lots of jobs, which allows people to pay their bills, and adds tax revenue not only for him, but all those people that worked, which could allow the government to put that money to feed the homeless, and allow the people that earned money to donate money to feed the homeless. Besides spending like this, many rich people DO donated millions, and in some cases BILLIONS to charities, feeding the homeless being one of them.

People should enjoy the fruits of their labor. That's called living.

Being so judgmental of a way someone spends their own money legally is wrong. It doesn't make it any better because you added that the money should instead go to feed the homeless.

If couples stopped getting married, wouldn't that put a lot of us out of business? Is that what you would want to happen?

When's the last you did a wedding Mix...?

There will always be gigs, but they are starting to go to the top tier. That will weed out the under achievers. So, if it takes a lot of garbage off the market, is that not a good thing...?

Look on the bright side though -- the odds are 50-50, that they will remarry again after their divorce :)

I agree. The vendors that earned a chunk of this will also have more to spend, circulating dollars into California's sagging economy. Seeing the ultra rich spend their money is a good thing.

I say, if you got the money....why not!
Remember, that to HIM, spending 9 million for a one day event,
is no more financially damaging than us "regular folks" spending a couple thousand.

Could he have spent that money better? (as Ricky said)....sure.
But the same could be said about our kids' wedding day.
The concept is sound, it's the inflated dollar amounts that make it seem like a waste.

When my kids get married, I'd love to have the money to clothe some of my in-law family in Ewok costumes.
