I guess I'll be the first. I went to Sam Ash a couple of days ago when I was out driving around in that area. I was surprised to see that they had some Live-X speakers already on display. I demoed the passive double 15s, the active 15s, the sub and the passive 12s.
I was expecting to be blown away since my plastic 12" EV speakers are so good sounding and so powerful. The passive ELX112 are ok, but they don't compare to my much more expensive and more powerful Sx300s. I don't think they are going to be QSC K12 killers although to be fair I didn't hear the active Live-X 12s and didn't do a side by side comparison to the K12s.
The sub wasn't overly impressive either. I didn't notice if it was the passive or active sub. It didn't have the punchiness of the Ksub, but it's also about half the price. We didn't really play music that could put the sub through it's paces like hip hop or rap so the sub will need more evaluation than that one time.
What DID impress me was the active 15s and the passive dual 15s. Both have a rich and full sound with sparkling highs. I would definitely consider buying either one. The dual 15 model really sounded full and rich and put out an impressive amount of sound. I would be more impressed if they came with tilt back wheels given their weight. How much more would that have added to the cost? Not much IMO. But it would add a lot in terms of functionality. The active 15s sound really nice, I don't know what else to say. Definitely worth looking at if someone is in the market for a powered 15" speaker. At a guesstimate of around $600 street price-delivered- I'd say they are an excellent value.
These are my initial impressions based on an in-store demo rather than me using them which would be a lot better. I would have really liked to hear the K12 side by side with the ELX112P, but based on my first impression using the passive 12 is they're at two different price points and two different performance classes.
