I just got another request to do music at a ceremony. I have had quite a few lately. I did do one this year but it was using my set up as it was in place for the dance.

My questions are, what is a decent small system (read inexpensive) and how much do some of you charge for this? Just a sound system, no mics or anything else. Pricing for same site as reception, different site, etc.

I did a search but I never seem to want to go through a hundred posts to find the answers. I also checked out a few MN DJs sites and could not find any pricing or photos of systems.

I was also thinking of seeing if I could hook up an Ipod to one of my Eons. Would that work?

Thanks in advance.

Find out what the photo and video services are getting and add 10%. :sqlaugh:

Seriously, it's no different than determining the price for a full gig. Determine your "three D's" (distance, duties & duration) and get what you need/want.

You can certainly run an ipod through your EONs, but it may come off as tacky. I would build a small console (see my case) with a netbook, small mixer and wireless mic. Speakers will vary, but many of the new 10" actives are great for ceremonies.

Good luck!

Thanks guys.

Hank, you are right, I am pretty handy building things so building a small rack and running cables to a speaker or 2 would be better than holding an Ipod in my hand. lol

This ceremony is about 4 miles from the reception site. All they want is back ground music before, here comes the bride and probably something while people are leaving.

So with the early set up at the venue, driving to and from ceremony site, time there (duties), I would have to add at least $100-$150 for ceremony. Does that sound about what some of you charge?

It is more about the time for me than the actual duties. Those are pretty easy.

ditto Karl.

small Kustom speakers with 80 watt head.
these does the job (gig) 98% of the time.

$100.00 on site. around $150.00 off site.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMNPM5, don't think they would work... then again i havev't heard them.

I use a Yamaha StagePAS 500 for ceremonies. Works great as it has enough channels to accommodate the occasional musicians with a guitar and/or background vocals.

I use a Numark DDS CD & Media Player to store and play the ceremony music. Sometimes I use my Zune HD.
I have wireless mics including one Shure lav.

I charge btween $100 and $200 for ceremonies depending on whether I am accommodating musicians or not as well as distance from reception to ceremony venue.

This what my ceremony/backup rig has in it. @ AT 2000 series lav systems, and old Shure and AKG hand helds for speakers/singers, etc, small Peavey live sound mixer for the mics, laptop and Hercules RMX. For speakers I plug into my Matrix 200 system (one speaker).

I think an iPod touch would be cool to use also with a wireless system.

EV ZXA1 are the best speakers I have used for gigs like this.
As far as ceremonies, I don't think I've ever had one where I did not provide the mics for.

I use a compact, a mic, and a music source..(laptop or pacemaker)

I don't use a mixer unless I need more than one mic or a musician plug in

There are less expensive options for just ceremony set ups. Any of the systems mentioned would work fine. I like the compact because it looks good, super simple and super light, and it has proven to provide many other uses than just a ceremony system.

We charge $250 for the ceremony. We sometimes discount it if it's on site, short, and right before the reception.

What ever you use, keep the ceremony system simple. I've seen other DJs bring a huge set up...to play several songs before the ceremony and 1 song after...all to a very quite crowd. As long as the set up doesn't look tacky, it really doesn't matter what you use.

I have a couple of options available: Bose L1 Compact (when electricity is available) and Carvin Stagemate (when it isn't). Add-on price is usually $150 to $200.

If I had to buy a new speaker for ceremony use, I'd choose the Roland BA-330. It's lightweight, it sounds great, it has a built-in mixer, and it can run on 8 AA batteries. It's the best (and least-talked about) portable solution I've seen anywhere.

I charge $150 to $200 and more if not at same location.

I have used a Bose L1, Yorkville NX55p in the past.

I have a rack with small mixer 2 wireles lav, 2 wireless hand held and use a laptop computer.

I would like to use 2 EV ZX1a when I can afford to upgrade.

What do you think about these speakers for the ceremony system? They would pay for themselves after 2 uses.

I think they might be a little light for some jobs especially if it's outside

These would be more logical they are a little more powerful and could be used for a backup in most places. If you do intend to use them for more than ceremony spring for the sub

I use the American Audio QSD, hooked up to a single Mackie SRM 450.

The music is on a SD card. The QSD has everything any mixer would have, plus the ability to read and play music from SD cards. Really neat!

I charge $ 150 for ceremony music in addition to the reception music booking.

For ceremony only bookings -- $250 --

Available at a great price from NLFX Pro
