EV EKX vs ETX

The EV is slight step up from what you are using, but I think you would benefit from a EVOX12 or a L1MII/F1. Since you and I generally approach weddings similarly, a sleeker, but just as good sounding system is the way to go. There are many benefits.

I've definitely mulled over the Evox systems. The Bose, I'm not really considering as a main. I love my compacts, and I'm by far not a Bose basher by any means. But the thing I love about them for ceremonies, cocktails, and speeches... is also the thing I hate for mains.

I prefer being able to focus sound on the dance floor, and leave the rest of the room able to speak comfortably. To do that, I simply believe in a traditional speaker model that lets me direct sound where I want it, rather than everywhere.

You should definitely consider the evox 12. It is a great system. I would much rather use that then the etx.

I think you are overstating what the wide dispersion is really like at a reception.

There is a huge sweet spot. I can promise you, off too the sides, it's nothing like being in the sweet spot, and absolutely not overpowering or distracting off to the sides where the tables are. If that were the case, I would have sold them right away. I love how well they throw and the extra dispersion is amazing. Now, every time I hear a nice pair of 2 way 90 degree speakers at a wedding, I can't stand it. You have to be right in the middle and if you are outside of the dispersion even a little, it sounds muffled.

I ordered a pair of EVOX 12s yesterday. They haven't come in yet... but I'm looking forward to hearing them. Hope it wasn't a mistake... they're not cheap.
