Wow I just wanted to show you guys my facade. Every thing around here has to become a debate.

Sad but true...I'm guessing the competition with newbies and low ballers and the frustration they cause many in this business may be one of the causes...

Oh wait...that's fodder for more debate...d*mn...

Having said that, I applaud your purchase and hope it brings you more and better clients.

It will really make your rig stand out in a beautiful way.

Let us know how any client(s) and guests take to it!

Newbies and lowballers...could go on forever about 'they've been around always and will be' or 'is that really your competition'..etc.

Reality is...yes, they are your competition as are perhaps bands or Apple (ipod and bluetooth speakers). Just as mcdonalds and ruth's chris are competition to eachother ...

"I want to eat"..where do you want to go? maybe you want steak and can afford RC, maybe you have 5 minutes before a soccer game and have had nothing since 9am..or you're on the road and time/convenience ranks. Maybe you're into health food and neither actually are in the running for your food dollar.

Same for a DJ - weddings pretty much need one but I've been to a few without them..and the couple still end up married. It'd be nice for a backyard party to have a DJ - BUT there are other options.

this weekend here is the regatta on the river. A friend has a house on the river and will be throwing a party. He has a very very nice whole house, inside and out, bose system. BUT it's a special party, not just another saturday night. Is he ABLE to spend $500 on a DJ? Yep. WILL he though? No. He's trying to tempt my son and his buds to play (rock band, hs kids) for $100.

And so it is - you COULD buy a $75,000 new car, but you don't. You COULD buy a new car every 3-4 years, but you probably don't.
SOMEthing else is more important to you that you don't.

I could have gotten the next model car up..only $20/month more on the payment or so. What it came with wasn't worth that TO ME.

So to some folks, many perhaps, a DJ isn't worth a ton of money, or perhaps 'more' than the newbie/lowballer charges is just too much more.

Ok, please let's stop this now!
We really don't want to go there again now do we?

Nice facade @nextgen1.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of it in action.

No sorry, I meant lets not start to go down that old road of "what's a dj worth" again.
The thread looked like it was starting to derail.:)

Here is the thing, I like it and can afford it. We do not have a hard time getting our clients remember we only try and do max 25 events a year. I just want to always keep our image classy and fun. I really did not want a debate I was just happy with this and wanted to show my peers.

Am I trying to make more money? Not really, just looking to keep up a boutique type image. And have fun at the same time. Our other stuff looks fine, I just thought this would make a brides beautiful wedding a little prettier instead of my standard black or lighted facade.

Let me say this. What you bought is very nice sir. Kudos on the purchase. What you bought to me in my opinion is another piece that will have you stand out and say to brides when they see that can they have that at their wedding? For me what you did is about how you keep people wanting to spend the kind of money you charge to do a wedding. Of course you need to also have the skills to go with it. No matter how great your setup looks or how great your gear is, if you suck as a DJ none of that will matter.

It's all in branding to me and that says your brand is top of the line. I can't wait either to see what it looks like with the rest of the stuff you use at a wedding. Anytime you get tired of it you can ship it me. Just that I don't know if that will gather me more money or not as I'm not you. LOL.

Here's another view...would that bright shiny facade take away from the focus on the B+G?

Or would it make the DJ stand out too much instead of visually being quiet in the background?

Hmmm....Nextgen, what say you? I'm interested in your thoughts here...

I'm glad someone caught the thing about not turning this thread into a discussion on what a DJ charges and if a DJ is charging enough. Such threads lead to a Dead End. Dunlopdj like I said you can have all the flash you want. Non of that will matter if you suck as a DJ. To be fair every DJ I know of has had a bad day/night as a DJ. Just one of those days. If you're really good at DJing such days are far and few between.

I would say it wouldn't make the DJ stand out too much.
It's just one of the ways some try and make their setup look a little more elegant.
They may not even use it at every event. It may depend on the available setup space or even the venue decor.

whether you stand out or not would depend on the venue as much as anything else.

I've been front and center at some, shoved off in some corner at others. Saturday I'm in the center of the mall - that facade would look odd there IMO, but not in a fine hotel ball room. I don't do many fine hotel ball rooms...so for me, no. The frosted facades with lights behind them is fine for a school dance or prom, but I think out of place at that fine hotel ball room - but that may depends on the BG's dream for their day.

I used my bose L1s at the VFW two years ago. Didn't make any difference.

It won't go to all of our events for some of our clients it will be over the top and for some it will be a nice thing at their wedding Im a pretty good gage of this stuff because I communicate with our clients. Go to our website take the link to Weddingwire and read some of the reviews if you would like to know our performance level
