What are some interactive dances that you guys do? Any video from a good responsed dance?

I typically do the Cha Cha Slide and it is a crowed favorite here but what other dances do you guys do that gets everyone involved?

The next gig I have... I'm going to teach the kids the Numa Numa Dance, the crazy guy that waves his hands up and down on the web cam! It will be a hit. Mostly Otis Day - Shout, Macarena, (try to avoid the cha cha, too lenghty), ummm chicken dance, i incorperate the whole group where they get in a circle, the guys will be in a middle circle. Rotating and doing the movements.

I have a 3 minute version of that. I agree, the original is WAAAY too long.

I use the Harding Remix of the Cha Cha Slide, by Mr. C the Slide Man 3:45.
Has a clubby beat, about 132 BPM.

I use the same one.

Depending on the event, yes, I haul out the cheese. If I can't get anyone to participate I usually go out in the audience and ask them to dance with me. I teach the Macerena alot at parties. They usually get a kick out of it.

I say start with your arms over, over, up, up, cross, cross, head, head, side, side, butt, butt wiggle, wiggle, wiggle jump. I know this sounds ridiculous but it works.

Interactive dances go over great at company Christmas parties.

I don't lead/teach any dances, but a great icebreaker at weddings is to have the B&G lead the conga line (make sure you clear it with them first).

I too don't lead in dances.
Clear it with B and G to do the train etc....

I normally crash through and beatmatch

Cha Cha, Electric, YMCA, Celebration. In and out in under 10 minutes.

I don't care if I play em back to back, in my area, people want to hear it, but They don't mind cutting it short.

Get through a couple choruses and the hook, then get on with it.

Chicken dance only when requested. Sometimes its good entertainment during dinner hour for grandma and grandkids....

no macerena, but if I do, I speed it up.

Later in the night.....
Shout!
bee gee's disco move types stuff if the crowd looks like they will feature some guests in the middle....

and of course, thriller by MJ at midnight..."see who can do the dance the best"

I save it for the little kids that always come up to me.

I keep maraccas and leis handy.

I have only done it once, so far, but it worked.

I handed a little boy a maracca and a lei, and he lead the Conga Line.

Yeah. I even got on the mic and shouted in my "Jamaican" accent. I'm a geek.

:)

What is the "hands up" dance? I just had a wedding planner bring it up in a conversation.

I'm just guessing:

Maybe everybody just dances in a line (perhaps like a Conga Line?) with their hands up in the air to the song, HANDS UP (Caribbean)? I think others have done it, but I know the one by OTTAWAN. (?)

HANDS UP
BABY HANDS UP
GIVE ME YOUR HEART
GIVE ME GIVE ME YOUR HEART
GIVE ME GIVE ME...

?

Now dat's some heavy lyrics! :sqlaugh:

BTW, my kids LOVE that song!

Got one for you. I've done this at weddings, corporate parties and birthday parties. Lets use birthday party today.

Get the person having a birthday on the floor and explain that what we would like to do is get a group picture of the birthday boy/girl and all the family and friends. Get the person or persons who have been taking pictures all night or whomever has a camera, and have them click some group photos.

Then the kicker, tell everyone one last picture everybody turn and smile for me and put both your hands in the air and wave for the camera:sqwink: click click great now your in perfect position to do the chicken dance. By the time I'm saying this the music is already playing.

Call me crazy but a couple weekends ago I did a reception for a very fun group from Ireland. I told them it was a tradition here in America for the best man to lead everyone in the Traditional "Camel Dance" to kick the dancing off. I showed him a couple moves side to side then hop for the humps with a napkin held high. I played Purple people eater. He did his best and in the end I told him there was no such thing until now.
