Is it time to retire

We semi-retired from the DJ biz several years ago. Kept it going as a scaled down operation doing mostly weddings and other upscale shows. The drawback was this: There wasn't enough money coming in to justify the expense. Music subscriptions, new lighting effects, biz license and the rest. So we decided to fully retire altogether.

We don't miss it... it had become tiring. After a load in and sound checks we were already beat. But there were 3 hours of show time and the load out to come. DJing had just become more work and worry than it was worth.

I wish you the best in retirement. Do it right and plan ahead of time. :)

good luck to you. I'm looking at a couple of years for me so this past summer I bought new equipment ,for the future buy it now not then

what's retirement? We had a plan and it just recently fell through so truthfully I have no idea what I will be doing, BUT if I were in your shoes I would just hand pick my gigs, or maybe just have a night or two at the roller rink where I would play my music real loud. Maybe I'd call it "Loud Music Night, Chuck's Choice" LOL I wouldn't care if anyone came, but it would allow me to get my ya-ya's out.

Take up golf, with all the cool clothes you can get now it's fun to play! :)12239999_186288741714766_7210624112393344225_n.jpg

What amazes me is that you're 45 and able to consider retirement. I'm 51, and I can't see any way possible for me to retire...........ever.
Same .. though I'm 55 .. after dropping a bunch on 2 college tuitions, I need some time to re-stock the retirement coffers. I might change my tune (pun intended) after I hit 60.

DJing for me is not a job .. and I'm certainly not netting any money at it.

I busted my ass for 25 years to get to this point, I have worked a full time 60 hour plus job and Djed over 150 events a year for the last 25 years, I played Tuesday through Saturday for a large portion of that time, I had an Uncle who retired at 50 and I watched him really enjoy life after retirement, I also received around a $50,000 inheritance when I was 25 that I invested instead of blowing and that has done very well for me,

Beat all of you...I've been semi-retired for years (military 20-year) and Social Security. I'm in the final stages of DJ Retirement as I speak. As most of you know I recently sold my large sound system (Yorkville) and down-sized to Evox 8 (pair). In March I plan to have a DJ Retirement Yard/Garage sale in hopes of getting rid of many items; special affect Halogen lights, back-up sound system (RCF tops and subs), ceremony rigs, and road cases of many sizes (carpet and Road Ready). Also, both types of lights (par 38's) and (LED), ADJ 10-ft. truss system, even a slide-back coffin (black carpet) by Odyssey, and ultimately a 5x8 Expressline Trailer w/rear ramp and side door. I'm going to miss playing music and watching people dance, but not the loading in-out and setting up. I'll have to come up with another "hobby" to take it's place.
