This is what happens when one tries to be a Jack of all Trades. I don't see how some can do it..DJ, Lighting, Uplighting, Photography, Videography and Lord know what else. I can see DJ and Lighting together but the other stuff is like wearing too many hats. Clients won't really take you too seriously.

At least if his gigging computer breaks he will know how to fix it...:triwink:

Actually Houston, out clients love photo / video service we offer with the DJ service.

I don't see anything wrong with offering multi-services in the same realm of a wedding / event service.

there is nothing wrong with offering different packages.you handle the dj/lighting and your wife/partner handles photography/video,you tell me what's wrong with that??

I see some here in Houston who offer Lighting, Photography, Uplighting etc for free just to get the Gig. Problem is that the money they are getting for the Gig is not enough to cover the Gig itself. Maybe if one had help they can do it under different auspices and billing. Then even though they may be together, they act separate. I doubt that many even charge full price for each service. But what do I know, eh? I just push play!

So, is he your competition? In a word: NO.

Zac, we need to examine this further... :D

Probably few (if any) of us, has ever seen Eddie perform. He also works for Fedex, and may well have been the dude throwing the monitor over the fence.

So, for all we know, that may very well be his competition -- and why they are in front of him...

Fair enough, Rick!

Hmmm, it seems to be working for us too! I guess you and I are both wrong, huh?

I was thinking about you Kirby when I read this thread earlier. I get Houstons point but the thing is there are those that do it right like you and Correen and others that don't. Multiple services can be offered if you know what you are doing and have a plan unfortunatly most aren't like you and the quality shows.

Yeah Kirby, you're kind of the oddball there. You're a pro DJ and Coreen has been a pro photographer for quite some time. It's a little different.

The key is whatever you decide to do, you do it the best you can in all the areas you are offering. If you can't offer 100% in all these areas, stick to the one you can and let another professional do the other stuff. That is what a professional is all about.

There are exceptions to every rule. Some can pull it off but most can't! I applaud those who can. I know I can't.

I have two businesses Art and DJing/Music (fortunately they can't be performed together like how DJ and Lighting would), however I Rarely mix the two with the clients I serve. The DJ/Music Clients think that all I do is DJ/Karaoke/SR while the Art Consulting/Installation Clients think that all I do is Art Consulting, Framing and Installation. I like it that way.
